We are seeking both PRIMARY & ALTERNATE employees to fill all contract positions. The
primary is first in line for the position and the
alternate is next in line to deploy should the primary person be unable to meet position and/or deployment requirements.
Responsibilities:
The
Satellite Communications Technician is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of satellite communications systems. These systems include Power Amplifiers, Antenna Controllers, Up/Down Converters, Satellite Modems, Monitoring and Control software, telemetry systems, analog/digital microwave, Direct to Line Multiplex equipment. Other responsibilities may include documentation and tracking of system changes/updates, emergency communications and disaster recovery support, supporting radio equipment and antennae, and general electronics bench work. The ability to read schematics and use a broad range of test equipment is a must.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
* Responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of C-Band, S-Band, L-Band and Ku-Band RF/Satellite communications equipment
* Maintains telemetry and antenna tracking equipment
* Maintains analog/digital microwave radio equipment, multiplex and order wire systems
* Troubleshooting and maintenance of analog to digital and digital to analog interface equipment
* Maintains electronic equipment supplies and inventory; Assists Stations and RPSC Headquarters with annual inventory re-supply order
* Provides emergency communications and disaster recovery support
* Provides RF/Satellite antenna support, repair and maintenance
* Provides general electronics support
* Performs additional duties as assigned by Communications supervisor
Qualifications:
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Minimum of six years experience with satellite communications equipment
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair at the system level
* Strong computer skills to include experience with monitoring and control software
* Strong communication skills
* A broad range of knowledge in electronics/communications
PREFERRED SKILLS:
* Continued education in technical courses pertaining to communication electronics
* Experience with analog/digital microwave, multiplex equipment and communication equipment power systems

All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract. FYI - Only authorized personnel are allowed on station and you need to remain on station for the duration of your contract except in case of emergency.
