Summary:
This Scientific Associate is responsible for providing medical support services including but not limited to: research, program development, liaison with clients and physicians, physician identification and recruitment. The Scientific Associate will also be responsible for researching, writing, and developing strategically, medically and scientifically accurate educational materials for targeted healthcare audiences and work with the staff to develop and pitch new business to prospective clients.
Responsibilities:
· Research therapeutic areas
· Educate staff about science and clinical issues
· Review programs and manuscripts for medical accuracy and appropriateness, provide guidance and direction to medical writers as needed
· Revise manuscript or direct the revisions process to improve accuracy, style, content or focus
· Assist in preparation and presentation of new business pitches
· Writing and/or assisting in the writing of educational materials such as journal articles, supplements, slide kits, product monographs, formulary kits, invitations, posters, abstracts, new offerings developed by the company, and content for internet sites, CD-ROMs, and videos consistent with AMA, specific journal, or client style guidelines.
· Attending Precept-developed programs and/or medical congresses when necessary to develop proceedings or other enduring materials
· Developing medically referenced outlines for programs to ensure the completed materials meet client’s objectives.
· Providing accurate citations in text and generating bibliographies
· Maintaining Reference Manager database (Ref-Man)
· Preparing highlighted supporting references for each project
· Identifying and securing permissions needed to be obtained for reproducing copyrighted material
· Working, as required, with Medical Director to answer queries arising after review of manuscripts
· Working, as required, with Art Directors in the creation of figures
· Collaborating with Program Directors to ensure that written materials meet client’s strategic specifications
· Recommending new projects based on his/her knowledge of product marketing strategy and life cycle
· Meeting with clients and authors as necessary during the development and review of educational materials
· Attend Precept-developed education programs and/or medical congresses when necessary to develop proceeding or other enduring materials
Skills:
· Strong medical background (MD, PharmD, PhD)
· Proven writing and presentation ability
· Creativity and strategic thinking (medical marketing and healthcare communications) are required
· Computer literacy in word processing programs and use of the Internet
· PowerPoint knowledge and Ref-Man fluency preferred
