Scientific Director

Their office located in Saratoga Springs, NY is seeking a Scientific Director.

The Director, Scientific Services ensures clinical relevancy/accuracy for all healthcare-related communication vehicles within the medical writing and copywriting/editing group that he or she oversees. This position works closely with medical writers and editors in overseeing the research, review, and writing of scientific and technical material for assigned healthcare accounts, providing strategic guidance and insight into the development of enduring materials, slide sets, and manuscripts. 

General and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of slide sets, manuscripts, and other content pieces as needed
  • Travels to scientific meetings to gather data for planned or potential publications
  • Provides medical services and copywriting/editing oversight to appropriate company’s accounts and projects and is able to manage and provide guidance to these resources
  • Manages medical writers, medical information specialists/scientific associates, freelancers, and copywriters/editors as necessary
  • Manages medical/scientific personnel to ensure that the scientific information that is provided to internal account/creative teams, as well as to external clients, is strategically sound and editorially accurate and of the highest quality
  • Provides appropriate medical/scientific and copywriting oversight to promotional and certified accounts within the company’s current and expanding portfolio of clients and brands
  • Oversees editorial accuracy for all healthcare-related communication vehicles
  • Works within a team environment to develop strategic insight into the medical content for new business opportunities and product launches
  • Develops strategic and editorially sound content as appropriate or necessary
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, key investigators, clients, and other marketing/agency professionals to establish a strategic association between scientific content and the appropriate positioning/marketing of a brand or service
  • Works closely with and supports the publications group from a scientific/editorial viewpoint

 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, RPh, RN, or other professional degree
  • At least 3 years of previous experience in pharmaceutical medical writing, copywriting, editing, and/or publication planning, preferably on the medical communications or commercialization side
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with account and creative teams, medical writers, copywriters, editors, key opinion leaders, and outside vendors
  • Ability to provide editorial expertise across a broad range of medical education projects and therapeutic categories
  • Ability to communicate medical/technical information to a wide variety of audiences
  • Medical writing and/or editorial experience (3 to 7 years preferred)
  • EndNote reference management database experience preferred
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment
  • Management skills required
