Knowledge of analytical techniques and data interpretation regarding characterization of materials and hands on experience in the development of test procedures and methods is required. The position will effectively implement and manage a technical team with the charter of creating analytical testing infrastructure along with systems and procedures in place to effectively support cross-functional customers.
Responsible for physico-chemical testing of new materials, components, assemblies, and prototypes as related to next generation implant products. Develop test procedures and analytical methods for the testing and characterization of biomaterials, devices, ingredients, additives, residuals and leachables. Support ongoing product development and process development initiatives. Provide reliable data in a timely manner in support of various projects using various analytical instruments like HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, AA, UV-VIS, FT-IR, GPC, IC, GPC DSC etc as appropriate to the analysis. Activities will focus in all of Allergan Medical's current business areas: facial aesthetics (injectables), breast aesthetics, and health.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate characterization of raw materials, laboratory prototypes, components and assemblies, and 1st article units from Manufacturing. Establish SOP's for instrument operation, SOP's for specific test methods for physical testing, chemical analysis and maintain an easily accessible database as a repository for all data. Present data and results in an organized manner.
Education and Experience
Ph.D Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field with at least 3-6 years of industrial experience is preferred. In lieu, a Master's Degree with considerable work experience and diversified exposure may be considered. Work experience involving biomaterials in a medical device industry is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge and experience involving chemical and/or physical characterization of raw materials, linear/cross-linked polymeric materials, fabricated polymer components, assemblies, and devices. Hands-on experience with HPLC, GC-MS, GPC, FTIR, UV/VIS, mechanical testing, DSC, TGA, SEM, AA,ICP,IMS etc .Previous experience in providing analytical and technical support in the fabrication and development of diversified biomaterials, implants, ingredients and components and direct hands on project management will be considered a definite plus.Direct experience in the calibration, qualification and preventive maintenance (PM) of various analytical instrumentation will be required
