Records, monitors and analyzes general ledger accounts. Assists in the preparation of financial reports and with analysis of results. Performs major account reconciliations and analysis. Ensures accuracy in accordance with GAAP, STAT, regulatory filing requirements, Sarbanes Oxley compliance and company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares and books journal entries and adjustments
2. Assists in the preparation of financial statements for all entities
3. Assists in preparation of quarterly and annual statutory statements
4. Develops reports in support of financial analysis and reporting
5. Reviews processes and procedures to ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance and makes recommendations to improve efficiencies and controls
6. Responsible for the more complex STAT & GAAP accounting processes
7. Research GAAP & STAT treatments and ensure company is in compliance
8. Prepares/reconciles supplemental reports related to reinsurance in compliance with fronting agreements and other reinsurance requirements.
9. Reviews/books/analyzes loss reserves, IBNR allocation for targeted ratios, Premium and investments
10. Assists accounting supervisor with day to day technical & supervisory responsibilities
11. Other duties as assigned or as situation dictates
Requirements:
• Must have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting
• Experience with automated General Ledger programs
• At least 2 years experience performing general ledger account reconciliations and analysis and assisting in the preparation of financial statements.
• Proficient with Excel and Word
• Good organization skills with ability to multi task effectively
• Good problem solving and analytic skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED
• Masters or CPA Preferred
• Knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance accounting
• Experience preparing Schedule P
• Statutory & GAAP accounting experience
• Exposure to Sarbanes Oxley
• Experience using Oracle Financials particularly General Ledger
• Microsoft Access experience
