Senior Accountant

This position will serve both Center for International Rehabilitation and MedRed, LLC.  For this reason, we will give priority to candidates with both non-profit and government contract accounting experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Senior Accountant will perform a variety of accounting, clerical, and administrative tasks for accounts payable activities. These include:



  • Prepare monthly financial statements.

  • Issue subcontracts and monitor accounts to ensure appropriate expenditures and compliance with financial reporting.

  • Ensure that costs are properly collected and billed or charged to appropriate contract or grant.

  • Prepare budget analysis for project monitoring and reporting.

  • Assist in the development of budgets for proposals.

  • Prepare organization’s annual budget and compare budget versus actual results on monthly basis.

  • Maintain general ledger and supporting documentation; reconciliation of bank accounts and general ledger accounts.

  • Code invoices, write/post checks, file paid bills, and handle deposits.

  • Prepare and post payroll, including the reconciliation of employee timesheets (for about 10 person office).

  • Maintain books on a project/departmental accounting basis.

  • Help coordinate the audit process and manage audit resolutions.

  • Assist in the negotiation of indirect cost rates, to include providing required financial data.

  • Organize and maintain accounts payable files and reports. Use reports as reference to check for incomplete records and data entry errors, and to balance and reconcile accounts.

  • Analyzes transactions, prepares journal vouchers and reconciles reports.

  • Proofread paperwork and correct discrepancies of a routine nature under prescribed policies and procedures.

  • Provides assistance to all staff regarding problems with invoices, accounts, and purchase orders.

  • Administer employee benefits (including pension plan contribution and health insurance)

 


QUALIFICATONS: The minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least five years of experience.  Knowledge of OMB Circulars A-110 and A-133.  Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others; ability to work independently and be proactive about identifying and resolving potential problems and financial discrepancies, ability to prioritize and organize work assignments and meet deadlines; ability to read reports and analyze transactions; proficiency with Excel spreadsheets; familiarity with grants and contracts a plus, familiarity with Sage MIP Fund Accounting and ADP systems a plus; accurate and fast data entry skills.
