Senior Analyst Business Systems

JOB SUMMARY:

The goal of the Business Systems team is to develop and improve the financial systems framework in order to deliver value to the organization. The group develops strategies and maintains systems relevant to the Staples’ finance community and this framework supports decisions that help ensure the long-term success of the organization.

Responsible for executing and maintaining the operational processes of Staples’ decision support tools. Ensure stability and reliability of the models and applications, and that the models support the business. Recommend enhancements to the systems and the optimal processes to better support business planning. Promote the impact that the Cognos Enterprise Planning (EP) and Essbase Reporting tools play in supporting business and their value to partners. Strategically formulate global vision of tool usage and our team’s support of that vision. Solicit feedback from users on enhancements that drive efficiency and effectiveness. Transfer knowledge and experience to business users.

  • Understand, build, own and support various Cognos EP models and manage the path of data to databases that feed our reporting tools including Hyperion Essbase and Microstrategy.
  • Support the teams that support the Reporting tools (Essbase & Microstrategy)
  • Act as integral liaison between Finance Community and IS for trouble shooting and issue resolution through key business contacts and strong partnerships. Consult on reporting issues and help prioritize potential improvements.
  • Work with multi-relational databases and execute enhancements to applications as needed.
  • Project Management/Business Analysis: see projects through from start to finish. Facilitate meetings with business partners, collect requirements, build models, flow data, understand reporting implications, train users.
  • Audit processes and the overall systems to gain efficiencies and improvements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA or MS in Accounting or Finance
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience with the Cognos software tool set especially Cognos EP preferred
  • Knowledge of other business intelligence tools such as Hyperion Essbase and Brio a plus
  • Advanced Excel experience a must; knowledge or prior use of Access a plus
  • Ability to communicate ideas and build effective working relationships
  • Demonstrate diligence and autonomy in developing system improvements and issue resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
