Senior Associate Scientist, Assay Development

About the Job

The Immunogenicity Sciences Group within the BioMedicine Design (BMD) department is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Associate Scientist to work within the team and contribute to immunogenicity risk assessment across a diverse array of therapeutic protein modalities and disease areas.

The role has responsibility for expanding, maintaining and managing a human PBMC biobank, managing general laboratory maintenance and executing laboratory-based predictive immunogenicity & immunogenicity reduction technologies.

The role will work in close collaboration with the Immunogenicity team to ensure continuous support to Pfizer biologics portfolio projects.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Expand, maintain (human PBMC isolation and storage) and manage a biobank in compliance with internal best practices
  • Isolate and culture various blood-derived cell types to support the Immunogenicity team and other partner lines in delivering high-value data in support of Pfizer biologics portfolio projects
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is adequately maintained through coordination of scheduled preventative maintenance visits and handling issues as they arise
  • Under minimal supervision, assist team members in conducting in vitro or other lab-based immunogenicity assessment experiments
  • Contribute significantly to the implementation of lab automation
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking to continuously improve the team processes, in particular with regard to biobanking and automation
  • Effectively interact within Immunogenicity team to support projects advancement
  • Present and discuss on-going progress at weekly/monthly group meetings

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS with 2-4 years or thesis-based MS with 0-2 years industry experience in the field of biopharmaceuticals, leukocyte biology or immunology
  • Experience working in a tissue culture laboratory with samples requiring BSL2 containment is necessary
  • Track record of human PBMC isolation and storage.
  • Outstanding organization and record-tracking skills
  • Proficiency in all common office and scientific software
  • Scientific curiosity and ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  The position requires an individual who will thrive within a team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in biobank management will be a plus
  • Experience with DC and/or T cell in vitro assays and flow cytometry is preferred
