Develop a variety of profiles, queries, or reports using statistical analysis or other software application packages and business unit database or mainframe system to assist end-users, or clients of a business unit, in analysis activities. Maintains and adds data to existing profiles to maintain historical archives. Support end-users, clients, or other members of the department by manipulating various data for quantitative research projects. Conducts research projects to refine and anticipate user needs. Meet with end-users, or clients of a business unit, to discuss difficult and complex projects requiring the extraction or manipulation of data stored in organization databases or mainframe systems. Clarifies, and confirms the specifications. Develop a significant understanding of the client’s business and strategic objectives to better understand needs and offer additional suggestions or alternatives to assist the end-user or client in obtaining data in the most expedient time frame. Ensure consensus with the end-user, or client of the business unit, on necessary specifications. Liaisons as required with business unit end-users to anticipate future business needs and begin initial specification development.
 
Develop, maintains and implements the roll-out of data marts as required. Modify data marts as necessary to meet the needs of the end-user, client, or department. Keeps apprised of all current and future computer enhancements, which affect the department. Performs maintenance of generated programs, queries, and profiles to ensure organizational computer systems operate in an efficient manner. Partners and networks with members of Technology Services on a variety of issues and projects as required. Submit data marts to Technology Services for implementation into data warehouse. Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices. Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Independently assumes general research and computer programming projects for assigned department. Serve as a team leader of larger project teams. Serve as a resource for other Analysts to draw from. Reviews the work of the Associate Analyst and provides mentoring when assigned. Learn the specific goals and objectives of the assigned department by actively participating in team projects. Volunteers for work outside of the assigned computer related activities as required to grasp a better comprehension of assigned business unit. Provide management direction to foster effective selection, development and reward of subordinates while contributing to initiatives in support of the Company’s Diversity programs. Complete other responsibilities, as assigned. Develop, tests, and writes moderate to difficult complex application programs, queries, or profiles according to the specifications.
 
Code and change program as necessary. Modify existing programs as necessary to meet the needs of the end-user, or client of the business unit. Prepares data according to the needs of the end-users, client, or department including the provision of downloads of the information for the end-user or client to further use in developing complex reports which may require data manipulation and analysis. Also develop charts or other visual aids to assist in understanding the data. Implement tracking devices for evaluating progress of meeting project goals and objectives. Builds dialer download profiles as required. Builds or maps tracker profiles as required. Receive “raw data” from outside sources. Manipulate the data to input into database. Use data according to the needs of the business unit or outside client. Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Employees assigned to this classification should be in a computer programming and manipulation capacity spending at least 70% of the time supporting the needs of the department with the rest of the time spent in an analysis support capacity.
 
Basic Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field
  • Master’s degree desirable
  • Minimum of five years computer programming experience, preferably in a financial services environment and at least four years working in the assigned business unit or an equivalent capacity outside of the organization
  • Proficiency in one or more computer programming languages preferably SAS (Statistical Analysis Software), COBOL, SQL, PEARL, JAVA, HTML, Visual Basic, or TSO/ISPF
  • Knowledge of logical data modeling, business rule definition, and meta-data management
  • The ability to actively listen
  • Interview end-users or clients, and apply information from meetings to complete tasks
  • Mathematical and statistical aptitude
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
