Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials. Purchases materials, using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels. Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards. Develops specifications for new contract orders. Obtains materials, components and equipment. Evaluates vendor reliability, develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate. Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. Specialist Level - Under general management direction, has system-wide responsibility on complex business components or complex projects. May provide direction for the business component or an entire project and/or project team. Expected to mentor and transfer knowledge to more junior staff members. Works on multifaceted problems that always require new and creative thinking. May act in a leadership role as a principal customer contact and/or interface with Senior Company Management.
General Responsibilities: In addition to the above, this position is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of commodity strategies to ensure supply base optimization and lowest total acquisition cost (TAC) to Brooks. Analyze, investigate, and implement programs and processes that reduce non-value added activity and improve cycle time(s), quality and TAC.
Specific Responsibilities: Analysis of supplier capacity and capability to ensure their ability to supply parts within the dynamics of the semiconductor equipment industry.
Pursue Cost Modeling in support of long term cost containment and improvement activities.
Key contributor to Product Development and Introduction (PDI) from a materials perspective.
Active role during Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) in determining TAC of material.
Assist in the development and execution of commodity strategies to ensure supply base optimization and lowest total acquisition cost (TAC) to Brooks Automation.
Analyze, investigate and implement programs and processes that reduce non-value added activity and improve cycle time(s), quality and TAC.
Develop and nurture relationships with newly added suppliers to ensure alignment to Brook’s operating methods including DFT/Lean principles, Kanban and consignment.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Oracle 11i or similar is required – 'super user' is a preference
Ability to use Discoverer or similar reporting tools.
EXCEL tools and metrics – analysis and reporting
CPM or CPIM is highly desirable.
Demonstrated strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to work closely within all levels of the organization.
DFT/JIT/Kanban knowledge and experience is desirable.
Working knowledge and application of quality systems (ISO, SQC, etc.).
Experience or knowledge of electronics or mechanical component design, manufacture and acquisition is desirable.
Experience with international purchasing or sourcing is desirable.
Professional and team based approach to problem solving and negotiation is required.
Bachelor's degree with 6-8+ year's experience, or Masters with 4-5+ years, or its equivalent.
BS or BA Degree in Manufacturing, Purchasing or Technical discipline preferred. The ideal candidate will possess an Engineering or Purchasing degree; however, this is not mandatory.
