Job Description:
Job Description: The Research Nurse will work as part of a team consisting of the Home Visit Coordinator and Environmental Technicians to administer questionnaires, collect biological samples and physical measurements and conduct neurodevelopment assessments for the National Children's Study (NCS) participants during home visits in Queens. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Home Visit Duties: -Schedule and coordinate appointments with study participants (home visits and specimen collection) -Conduct interviews using standardized questionnaires with study participants and instruct participants on self-collected sample and assessment procedures -Collect biological samples (urine, blood, saliva) -Conduct anthropometric measurements including skinfold, upper arm, hip with waist circumference and blood pressure Office Duties: -Prepare forms, supplies and equipment needed for participant home visits -Receipt, processing (centrifugation of plasma/serum), and shipment of biological samples to the NCS Repository -Data entry using NCS Information Management Systems (IMS) -Maintains equipment for physical measures (calibration and cleaning) -Assist with other projects as needed -Attend group meetings Project Description: The National Children's Study (NCS) is a long-term research project that will examine environmental influences on children's health and development. The goal is to identify the causes and potential prevention strategies for a variety of child health conditions including birth defects, asthma, obesity, diabetes, injuries and learning and developmental disabilities. Researchers will follow 100,000 children from before birth to age 21 in order to evaluate how environmental influences interact and determine which aspects of the environment are harmful and which are helpful to children's health and development. The Queens Vanguard Center, lead by the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine is one of seven national centers selected to lead the implementation of the National Children's Study.

Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Skills: -Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree in Nursing. -Must have valid Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) license from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be qualified to take the PBT (ASCP) licensing exam with at least two years of experience in a clinical setting -Must possess the ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to work in a team environment -Must have strong computer and organizational skills -Ability to carry heavy equipment (30lbs) for sample collection -Valid driver's license and willingness to use personal vehicle for business travel required (reimbursement at government mileage rate will be provided) -Flexible work schedule including some evening and weekend hours Preferred Skills: -Registered Nurse license from New York State -Fluency in one language in addition to English and familiarity with Queens neighborhoods strongly preferred. -Strong interest in environmental research, science and public health All positions pend completion of: -Background check -Language Assessment (bi-lingual candidates) -Availability for Trainings in Maryland and NYC
