Position Title:              Senior Coding Specialist

 

Facility:                       Chester River Hospital Center is a small, dynamic, community hospital

                                    in historic Chestertown, Maryland. Chestertown is a waterfront, college town, surrounded by rolling farmland and ten miles from the beautiful

                                    Chesapeake Bay and 1 ½ hours from Baltimore, Washington D.C.,

                                    Philadelphia and the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.

 

Department/Unit:        Health Information Services  

 

Hours/Shift:                Full-time, 8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday-Friday

 

Certification                Coder certification required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and/or

                                    Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

 

Education:                   High School diploma or equivalent required. AA degree in Health

                                    Information Technology preferred.

 

Experience:                 Must demonstrate competency in ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. Must

                                    have experience working with spreadsheets.

 

Brief Outline of Essential Functions:

 

 

  • Responsible for coordination and follow through of various audits and coordinate educational sessions.
  • Monitor case mix, coder productivity and various financial reports.
  • Responsible for various record reviews to include those by the Health Service Cost Review Commission (HSCRC).
  • Responsible for reading and interpreting health record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures that occurred during the inpatient stay/outpatient encounter.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy/physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic/procedural terminology to assign accurate numeric codes.
  • Abstracts/reports required data elements in accordance with the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS).
  • Must demonstrate initial and annual competencies in order to remain the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all phases of work.
