We're looking for a Senior Controls Engineer for our Chester, South Carolina glass/mat operation! The Senior Controls Engineer provides leadership and technical expertise as the project engineer on electrical projects. In this role, your primary focus will be on electrical projects dealing with controls, data acquisition, power distribution, wiring and other related issues. A key area of responsibility includes the troubleshooting of electrical problems as they relate to the production line process. In addition, it is expected that this individual will provide ongoing training to the Electronic Technicians for skill and ability enhancement in troubleshooting and repair.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops long-term vision of electrical systems for all plant operations. With feedback from production and maintenance, implements controls-based solutions to support operational needs
- Manages the design and installation of electrical/electronic equipment including electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives
- Investigates and analyzes electrical or electronic based problems associated with the production operations and designs systems to eliminate these problems while providing new capabilities
- Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes as they relate to a continuous operation process
- Works with the maintenance planner to ensure electrical projects are properly scheduled on PMD’s and with the maintenance engineer to develop a good electrical/electronic preventative maintenance systems
- Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications for electrical and electronic PLC and other controls systems, such as single loop controllers, PC-based systems, and custom platforms.
- Designs and conducts research for PLC and other controls systems and based on the outcome of this research makes recommendations to modify or install systems
- Assists and trains maintenance, production or other employees as needed with technical or troubleshooting related matters
- Writes detailed funding requests for projects assigned
- Directs and supervises the work of outside contractors and hourly teammates

Job Requirements:
A BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience in continuous process manufacturing environment, with expertise focused on electrical components, electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives is required. The selected candidate will be skilled in the design, installation, and upkeep of PLC and other controls systems in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in the development, installation and maintenance of data acquisition systems and HMI systems, such as Wonderware. Ability to work in the U.S. without current/future need for GAF-Elk visa sponsorship.
