Senior DSP Software Engineer

About the Job

SUMMARY: Design and develop DSP software for KVH’s guidance and stabilization products in a team-oriented environment.


As part of the Software Team, the candidate will work on design and implementation of embedded and application software for guidance and stabilization products incorporating DSP processors, signal processing algorithms, low-noise high reliability digital and analog electronics, etc. The ideal engineer will have 5+ years of embedded DSP software development and deployment, expertise in C/C++, direct low-level hardware device access and demonstrated strength in signal processing theory and practice.  He/she will provide leadership and innovation in software architecture, high level and low level design, standards and best practices. Experience with sensor networks, networking protocols, satellite communications and mobile device applications is a plus.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

         Work on assigned projects to maintain or develop new KVH guidance and stabilization products in accordance with KVH’s software development process and methodology;

         Analyze software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints;

         Work with other team members to develop alternative system and software designs;

         Formulate and design signal processing algorithms for products and systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure the outcome and consequences of the design;

         Apply generally accepted programming standards and techniques to assure efficient program logic and data manipulation for time and space constrained platforms;

         Develop, configure, document and troubleshoot complex algorithms and programs;

         Test software using remote debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers;

         Plan and execute software releases, version upgrades, custom interfaces and software quality assurance activities;

         Create and review design and product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy;

         Analyze the performance of hardware and software interfaces and identify alternatives for optimizing the usage of resources;

         Consult with other engineering staff to evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system designs;

         Participate in product definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs;

         Lead and mentor team members;

         Recommend selection, approval, and acquisition of hardware, software and services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·         MS or PhD in CS, EE or equivalent preferred, BS with directly applicable experience will be considered;

·         5+ years of hands-on embedded microprocessor software design and development required;

·         5+ years of hands-on, expertise in C/C++ and digital signal processing, Control Systems and Digital Filters required;

·         Expertise in Fourier Analysis, Amplitude Modulation and Frequency Modulation required;

·         Extensive experience with A/D and D/A conversion and low level device drivers required;

·         Working knowledge of FPGA and high speed signal processing required;

·         Working knowledge of design and SCM tools required;

·         RTOS or small system kernel experience preferred;

·         Experience with Analog Devices DSP processors and their architecture preferred;

·         Must be a US citizen or US Permanent Resident.
