Micro Systems Engineering is seeking a highly motivated, resourceful, and passionate director with strong technical and analytical problem solving skills.  Proven experience and a “hands-on” approach are essential to this position as Director of the Technology and Platform Development group.

The Director of Technology and Platform Development (TAPD) is responsible for directing research, development, and verification of technologies low power microelectronic technologies, systems, and platforms for advanced, next generation, RF enabled implantable medical devices. This position will provide global technical leadership, strategic product guidance, project definition, and overall management of the TAPD group resources.  He or she will be responsible and accountable for hiring and retaining a diverse, highly qualified staff of engineers and scientists and for providing career coaching, growth and personal development. The Director actively motivates all employees to pursue technological innovation combined with highest levels of quality and reliability. This position sets standards of technical excellence and personal ownership.

The Director of Technology and Platform Development’s responsibilities include the following:

·         Responsible for working with the program management, project leaders, line management, and team members to develop accurate project schedules and plans.

·         Acts as mentor to direct staff to develop solutions and resolve complex problems.

·         Recommends, interprets, and ensures employee compliance with policies and procedures.

·         Provides senior and corporate management with strategic information, project status, critical issues, operating plans, and budget requirements pertaining to department programs.

·         System design and development in partnership with key groups including clinical research, integrated circuit design, and software development.

·         Identifies future market-differentiating product and new business opportunities.

·         Maintains interdepartmental communications to ensure that department project activities and goals are effectively communicated and aligned with corporate goals.

·         Provides support and resources as necessary to identify and resolve problems related to the introduction and transition of a new product through its life cycle.

·         Anticipates and resolves potential problems.

·         Remains current on developments in field(s) of responsibility, regulatory requirements, as well as industry trends.

·         Maintains knowledge of current and novel technology through literature, trade journals, university associations, and by attending scientific conferences.

·         Actively pursues development of corporate intellectual property.

 

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Graduate engineering degree HIGHLY desired. Business degree or equivalent a plus.
  • 15 plus years experience in applied research, technology development, or product development including 8 plus years experience in implantable medical device R&D.
  • 5 plus years of demonstrated experience at a senior managerial level.
  • Strong experience in engineering and product development with demonstrated product design capability and thorough understanding of the FDA regulated product development process.
  • Knowledge and experience with RF communication, technology integration, MEMS, low power system architecture, firmware, cardiac rhythm management and/or neuro-stimulation device functional operation, and human nervous system/cardiovascular physiology HIGHLY desirable.
  • Experience with test documentation, protocol and report writing.
  • Experience developing project timelines and budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge patent process and ability to establish and maintain an effective patent incentive plan.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Lotus Notes, PSNext, and Microsoft Office Tools.
  • International travel/business experience and working knowledge of German is a plus.
