General Description

 

This position reports to the CFO and is responsible providing direction to the Tax Department including tax accounting, compliance and planning.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Prepare and manage the entire tax accounting function (FAS 109) and accompanying financial and SEC reporting. Prepare and manage work assignments for the development of the tax provision for statutory and GAAP reports. Research and resolve tax issues with accounting and/or external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Manage a team of 2 and responsible for developing their understanding of accounting as well as tax law.
  • Directs the preparation and filing of all Federal, State and local tax returns.  Calculates estimated tax payments required for all entities.and file extensions as needed. Authorizes tax payments and inter-company settlements as required.
  • Directs the preparation of all sales and use local tax filings. Ensure proper sales and local taxes are being charged to customers in all markets. Authorizes all payments as required.
  • Identify and implement all Federal, state and local tax law changes to ensure compliance in all filing jurisdictions.
  • Complies with and reports on Sarbanes Oxley controls for income and sales taxes. 
  • Tax planning-Analyzes the impact of taxes on the enterprise and develops tax planning opportunities. Analyze and evaluate proposed tax law changes on the enterprise. Support data requirements of the enterprise’s planning process.  
  • Provide support to management and other departments (payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, human resources, customer operations, etc.) on tax related issues.
  • Provides research for use in negotiated settlements for the most advantageous position for the company.
  • Prepare FIN 48 entries, analysis and disclosures.
  • Liaise with other departments when evaluating new markets, acquisitions and other business development opportunities.
  • Directs the implementation of tax impacts in programs designed by the enterprise for the production of accounting data and operating results. The complexity of the tax structure requires an active involvement with any system which incorporates tax calculations or generates data for tax calculations.
  • General ledger account review and reconciliation for tax accounts.
  • Manage two individuals in the group (Tax Manager and Tax Analyst).
  • Special projects as assigned.

 

 


 

Work Experience Requirements

 

·          15 + years of related experience

·          Expert knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the Company’s accounting, auditing and regulatory reporting and general accounting principles and practices

·          Working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to compliance and security

·          Excellent analytical, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

·          Strong negotiation skills as well as attention to detail

·          Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems

·          Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations

·          Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections

·          Effective management and problem solving skills

·          Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects

  • MS-Office proficiency required, experience with Solomon accounting system preferred

·          Proficient at RIA and Insource tax software

Education Requirements

 

·          Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required

·          CPA  required

·          MBA preferred
