Senior Electrical Engineer

Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation (KUCC), a world-class mining and mineral processing company, in Salt Lake City, Utah is searching for a Senior Electrical Engineer.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing electrical, instrument and equipment controls support to the Concentrator Asset Management Group. The Senior Electrical Engineer must also work and understand the various environmental standards and regulations associated with the Concentrator areas. Other accountabilities include the following:

• Provide improvements, modifications or additions to plant electrical and related process instrumentation and ensure all process is well documented.
• Development of training as necessary to update plant Operations and Asset Management members of such improvements, modifications or additions.
• Provides hands on involvement of the troubleshooting of plant electrical equipment, including PLC's, variable speed drives, variable frequency drives, transformers, switchgear, motor control, protective relaying, field control devices and other plant process electrical equipment.
• Responsible and accountable for area business objectives and optimization of processes, methodology, and technological applications to achieve reliability and availability of Electrical/Process Control Systems.
• Provide technical assistance to the upkeep and maintenance of plant electrical engineering software, including PLC Programming, HMI Programming, Safety Isolation Browser, Plant Motor Database, and Plant Load Overflow, Short Circuit, Coordination and Arc-Flash Studies.
• Instill a culture of employee ownership in equipment care and operation.
• Promote a culture where safety emphasizes personal awareness and responsibility.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 7+ years related experience in industrial electrical instrumentation, and equipment control systems, power distribution, Motor Controls, Boolean logic, PLC controls and electrical machines.
• M.S. or minimum 5+ years related experience in the above preferred. P.E. or E.I.T working towards P.E. strongly preferred but not required.
• CMRP Certification a strong preference.
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification a plus.
• Strategic, conceptual and analytical skills
• Experience with SAP and preference a plus.
• Demonstrated commitment to Safety
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self motivated and strong work ethic
