A business unit of PerkinElmer Illumination, Opto Technology develops, manufactures, and markets precision LED illumination systems for a wide range of OEM customers. We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who will take a lead role in developing electronic drivers and controls for LED-based systems and devices.
· Participate in understanding and defining new market opportunities. Meet with customers to understand their specific needs and develop new product specifications.
· Working with others on a project team, take the lead in developing electronics to meet new market and customer needs.
· Responsible for electronic design, development, and testing, as a member of one or more development teams and optionally as a team leader.
· For electronic and electrical designs, responsible for documentation and transfer to manufacturing and external suppliers. Work with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Test Engineering to develop and implement manufacturing and test methods.
· Hands-on responsibility for detailed circuit design, simulation, prototype construction, and testing.
· Mentor other site associates and help them improve their electronics knowledge and skill.
· Stay aware of the market, competitors, and technical developments in LEDs, LED systems, and particularly LED driver and control electronics. Communicate this knowledge to other site associates.
· Measure and assess competitive system designs.
· May review and assess competitor patents. May work with Legal to obtain patents for new designs.
· Must have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
· An advanced academic degree in engineering is preferred but not required.
· Evidence of post-degree continued education and training is desirable.
· Must have had at least seven years post-degree work experience in the design and development of electronic devices and products in industry.
· Work should have been in a range of applications or industries and demonstrate broad, rather than highly specialized, experience.
· Work experience should demonstrate practical ability to integrate electronics into complex systems.
· Must have experience developing products and systems from initial concept through design and simulation, prototyping, testing, and to full production realization. The majority of work experience should have involved development of products that were then manufactured and sold in some volume.
· Must have had direct experience taking at least one product through a regulated test and certification process such as UL, CSA, or CE.
· Experience developing electronics for medical devices or another highly regulated industry is desirable but not required.
· Experience in project management is highly desirable.
· Must have a solid grounding in electrical and electronic principles and theory.
· Must be knowledgeable in a wide range of electronics, including analog, digital, power supplies, EMI/EMC compliance, sensors, and embedded firmware.
· Must have experience using computer-aided-design software for schematic capture, simulation, and circuit board layout.
· Must have strong practical knowledge of circuit board production and testing methods.
· Must have practical experience in experimental measurements, data collection, and statistical analysis.
· Must be well-versed in office application software, particularly spreadsheets for engineering calculations and data manipulation.
· Prior knowledge of driver circuits for LEDs or laser diodes is highly desirable but not required.
· Should have a basic understanding of mechanical engineering and design, particularly in areas related to electronic system design such as heat transfer.
· Knowledge of LabView programming is highly desirable but not required.
· Must have a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to learn.
· Exhibits a strong bias for action and results. Is self-motivated and drives self and others to deliver on commitments within cross-functional teams.
· Able to clearly communicate technical information in written and verbal form, sometimes to a non-technical audience. Able to communicate and collaborate with customers, suppliers, and other PKI business units in an international multi-cultural environment.
