What You'll Do
 
At John Deere Power Systems, a Senior Aftertreatment Development Engineer leads DeNOx exhaust hardware development to meet off road final Tier IV emission legislations. In addition you will:
  • Coordinate integration of aftertreatment technologies with engines and vehicles to meet system functional performance and durability requirements.
  • Coordinate development and validation activities with key suppliers.
  • Define component performance requirements, product specifications, and component quality definitions.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison with component suppliers.
  • Lead development of meaningful and repeatable engine based functional tests with acceptance criteria to demonstrate component capability and limitations.
  • Be responsible for 1 engine dyno test cell.
  • Develop key component bench tests to characterize performance, durability, and failure modes.
  • Lead efforts to explore system configurations and develop performance and durability trade-off curves as well as vehicle level packaging impacts.
  • Define production exhaust configurations.
  • Support Product Verification and Validation (PV&V) for "end of life" compliance through engine tests or field tests.
  • Facilitate Product Development Process (PDP) for successful commercial launch.
  • Support Application Development Process (ADP) and interface for vehicle integrations.
  • Trouble shoot emission and component failures during development and validations.
What It Takes
 
We need someone with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and experience with diesel engine and compression ignition engine performance characteristics and emission technologies (e.g. engine, fuel, lube, aftertreatment, combustion, tests, controls, etc.).  Ideally you will have a BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. In addition we require:
  • 5 or more years of aftertreatment development experience.
  • Experience with diesel engine certification, development testing, and engine dyno test hardware.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic controls and sensor technology.
  • Experience with failure mode effects analysis, design for 6 sigma, robust engineering, manufacturing, and design of experiments.
A strong candidate will also have 3 or more years of direct DeNOx aftertreatment experience, and an advanced degree in Engineering.
