Senior Financial Aid Officer

About the Job

This position will perform all the functions of a Financial Aid Officer while also serving as a resource and mentor for new Financial Aid Officers as well as be available for special projects. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.


Key Job Elements:

1.      Meets all the Key Job Elements within the Financial Aid Officer job description: Develop, negotiate and finalize student financial plans consistant with financial planning policies and produres and Federal/State regulations for awarding aid. Work closely with students and their families to ensure the plan and re-plan continue to best meet the families' needs. Counsel students on all acceptances and other matters related directly to the student financial plan.

 

2.      Act as a resource for training new Financial Aid Officers.

 

3.      Be available for school committee work and to help other EDMC schools.

 

4.      Assist with operations management of payment process.

 

5.      May assist with quarterly Back to Basics Compliance Review on files of Financial Aid Officers.

 

6.      Available for special projects.

 

7.      Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

1.      Knowledge:
a) Bachelor’s degree preferred.
b) Three or more years of solid experience in financial aid or student accounts preferably in a post-secondary institution.
c) Advanced knowledge of Federal, State, or commercial loan packages.

 

2.      Skills:
a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations.
c) Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.
d) Strong basic computer software (MS Office) skills.

 

3.      Abilities:
a) Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
b) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. students, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
c) Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities and work schedule.
d) Ability to read, comprehend and comply with federal and state laws, regulations and policies pertaining to the provision of student financial aid.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means, move about the office or school, handle various types of media and equipment, and visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds unless otherwise specified in the job description.
