MEDICAL CENTER DESCRIPTION:


 


Located in the greater South Bay-Harbor area of Los Angeles County, the medical center is a free-standing, non-profit 400+ bed facility with over 2600 employees and a medical staff of more than 900 physicians.  The facility is a top 100 U.S. hospital (awarded four times by Solucient) and has top scores in Best Overall Quality, Best Emergency Services, Most Preferred Hospital, and Most Preferred for cancer treatment, heart care, outpatient surgery, and senior services.


 


POSITION PURPOSE:


 


Under general supervision of the Manager – Decision Support, the senior financial analyst is responsible for modeling and analysis of operations, including product lines, business plans, projections, forecasting, productivity and budgets.  Works with the Manager – Decision Support, Controller, various department heads and others, as appropriate, to communicate findings, provide training, and resolve issues.  


 


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


 


This position reports directly to the Manager – Decision Support.  Collaborates closely with the Controller.


 


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


 


1.      Provides analysis of operations.  Provides analysis of profitability of various product lines and departments, as required. 


 


2.      Produces bi-weekly productivity reports.  Ensures accuracy of data.  Provides productivity analysis, as requested.  Provides input and support, with respect to productivity, to the budget financial analyst. 


 


3.      Reviews departmental business plans and proposals for profitability and financial feasibility.  Models various assumptions and quantifies impact.  Provides sensitivity analysis on various assumptions.  Provides input into decision making process. 


 


4.      Maintains cost accounting system with periodic updates.  Works collaboratively with Sr. Managed Care Analyst to ensure costs are accurate and reflective of activities.  Responsible for providing data reconciliation.


 


5.      Maintains and updates the financial projections of the Medical Center (ENUF).  Works in collaboration with Controller and CFO to update data, assumptions, sensitivity analysis and all other inputs.  Maintains a working knowledge of the application.


 


6.      Supports strategic planning with adhoc analysis, projections, forecasting and modeling, as requested. 


 


7.      Assists in identifying control enhancements and makes recommendations for appropriate controls over the costing processes.


 


8.      Articulates both verbally and in writing the corresponding analytic methodologies employed to secure the data.


 


9.      Proficient in PC applications used in financial analysis, including but not limited to, Excel and Access.


 


13.  Provides training and education to financial and ancillary departments as needed.


 


14.  Embraces the hospital's values of service, excellence, knowledge, stability and community, and            demonstrates behaviors in a manner that reflect these values.


 


15.  Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, taskforces, etc.)


       when warranted.


 


16.  Performs other related work as required or requested.


 


 


INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:


 


This position interacts with Finance, Business Office, Ancillary Departments, Managed Care, and Administration as appropriate.


 


WORK ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS:


 


Fast-paced office environment with many distractions. Rapidly changing priorities. Great deal of work with PC.


 


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:


 


Bachelor’s degree, Business Administration/Accounting or Finance. Five years of experience in healthcare environment, with PC experience and knowledge of Finance and decision support software.
