This position is a technical accounting senior analyst within the Information Systems & Services (IS&S) group of GM.  This position requires an understanding of both the IS&S operations and the related technical accounting aspects.  Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision making, attention to detail and initiative.  Analyze quantitative data or complex problems of various types.  Develop new methods of analysis, select methods of data presentation, such as charts, diagrams, and graphs.  Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity, and initiative.  Occasionally instruct or assign work to others. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Analysis of specialized accounting / reporting areas relating to US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP), SEC rules and regulations as well as FASB Statements and other related standards.
  • Provide counsel to operating units and staffs regarding financial accounting issues.
  • Identify, interpret, and analyze potential accounting risks and issues.
  • Analyze quantitative data or complex problems of various types. Develop new methods of analysis, select methods of data presentation, such as charts, diagrams, and graphs.
  • Provide support during the quarterly/year-end closing process, financial reporting and analysis, and Sarbanes Oxley 404 implementation for the Global Information Systems & Services organization.
  • Search out and correct inconsistent data.
  • Write reports and summaries of findings.
  • Develop and present data to other members of the organization.
  • Coordinate information between departments.
  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group.
  • Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, attention to detail, creativity, and initiative. Occasionally instruct others.
  • Optimize business plans to improve business results
  • Providing internal and/or external financial analysis, consultation and decision support  
  • Solves problems and develops new methods of analysis

 

Basic Required Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification
  • At least 2 years Public Accounting experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities where problems are complex
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP), SEC rules and regulations as well as FASB Statements and other related standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Highly proficient Personal Computer skills and technology driven
  • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints
 
Basic Preferred Skills:
  • 3 or more years of Big 4 experience
  • 2-10 years Finance experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Corporate/unit policies and procedures
  • Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Masters Degree
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Program Management Professional (PMP).
  • Experience in Information Technology
