Senior hardware engineer for complex, high-end network security products in Juniper’s SLT business group. Must have ability and experience in end-to-end hardware product development cycle and product delivery all the way to mass production. Responsibilities include hardware design, supporting cross-functional teams and sustenance. Liaison with remote sites (e.g. India-based design team) may also be required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Work with PLM/architect on board-level and possibly system-level architecture. Define hardware specification 2. Design of boards/systems including processor sub-systems, ASICs, FPGAs/PLDs, high-speed digital interfaces and network interfaces. 3. Part selection and evaluation from engineering as well as other aspects such as cost and long-term support. 3. Supervision of PCB layout, prototyping and design verification. 4. Proactive collaboration with support/cross-functional teams such as Signal Integrity, Power, Mechanical/Thermal engg, Compliance and Operations to achieve time-bound results 5. Support software developers and platform bring-up 6. Define hardware test plan and support DVT engineer for product qualification. Review DVT reports and ensure product quality meets requirements. 7. Support QA process and ongoing product development 8. Own hardware sustaining activities on existing products, such as resolving field issues, failure analysis on critical RMAs, support Operations with qualification of new parts, drive ECOs for bug fixes and respins. 9. Interact with remote (e.g. India-based) design teams whenever required, for instance, on projects involving joint effort, or to help resolve issues that cannot be dealt with in the remote site due to logistical reasons. This may involve periodic early morning/late-night conference calls.
Knowledge & Skills
• Strong board level digital design experience along with systems design experience • Familiarity with board design tools (Viewlogic/Allegro or equivalent) • Familiarity with high speed PCB design/signal integrity issues and requirements • Able to manage multi-layer PCB layouts, prototype fabrication and design verification • Inclination for occasional product sustaining and customer support activities • Innovative and energetic personality, willing to explore new ideas and collaborate with co-workers and cross-functional teams to achieve design goals as well as team goals. • Strong team player, excellent communication skills • Eye for detail, process-orientation. Familiarity with ISO/TL9000 process requirements. • Able to manage multiple simultaneous projects and tasks • Unix/Perl/Expect scripting knowledge is desirable Education & experience
• BSEE plus 10 years’ experience, or MSEE plus 7 years’ experience. • At least 5 years’ experience in high-speed board design
