Senior IS Manager – Supply Chain Project Services

The Senior IS Manager role within the North American Delivery (NAD) and Supply Chain Project Services group is a pivotal leadership position responsible for quality delivery of key NAD & Supply Chain IS initiatives which include critical IS integration projects and business driving IS projects.

This position will focus on leading the Project Services organization located in our Broomfield, CO offices. This leader will be responsible for ensuring the Project Management, Business Analysis, Process Architect and Portfolio Management roles maintain a high level of symmetry and best practice sharing with the Framingham, MA based Project Services organization.

• Ensure successful and timely delivery of all project components within area of responsibility.
• Directly manage a team of project managers, process architects, business analysts and portfolio analysts (individual contributors) with a range of experience and expertise.
• Provide direct project oversight to all projects being managed by NAD & Supply Chain IS project managers and serve as an escalation path for key business and IS partners.
• Directly manage expectations of business and IS partners with regards to services offered by Project Services organization.
• Prioritize, schedule and plan the execution of multiple projects that may span more than one business unit or function and maintain a high-level understanding of dependencies that could lead to project risks.
• Ensure key departmental metrics are achieved assuring our overall IS commitment to operational excellence.
• Serve as a champion for the continuous improvement of various project services processes and practices.
• Continuous improvement of IS delivery and resource planning processes with the goal of maximizing the use of people and technical resources – provide management with analysis of current delivery processes and proactively make recommendations on opportunities to improve these processes.
• Ensure that resources are using accepted best practices, processes and methods within each project services discipline.
• Responsible for understanding IS/IT interdependencies, scheduling resources, and executing tasks against pre-defined plans in the context of Staples’ Project Development Life Cycle, Project Management Processes, Change Management and other standard IS/IT processes.
• Recruit and hire new associates. Provide supervision for direct reports (on-site and remote) including hired services contractors.
• Establish individual performance goals, review performance against goals and provide coaching for Associate skills and career development. Plan and recommend salary increases, as appropriate. Manage Associate issues, which may include dismissals.
• Follow departmental administrative procedures enabling concise management decisions based on concise data points.
• Ensure all areas of responsibility are keeping pace with or exceeding demand – drive results.
• Provide crisp and clear project services operations ‘account’ updates as needed.
• Provide input into annual cost center and project budgets; may manage spending against budget
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program and project management, process excellence and business analysis best practices to continually improve quality of delivery and related processes.


REQUIREMENTS
• BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business or equivalent
• Masters certification in related field and/or PMI PMP certification is a plus
• 10+ years information systems management experience including at least 10 to 15 years of IS/IT project management or business analysis experience and experience managing a team of project managers and/or business analysts
• Proven track record of delivering IS/IT projects in a large, complex, matrix environment using varied delivery approaches for internal and externally developed solutions as well as ‘packaged’ solutions
• Excellent leadership and communication skills required with the ability to manage and champion all aspects of process and cultural change
• Ability to quickly establish and maintain partner relationships at all levels across the organization
• Skills include strong business acumen and strategic thinking to complement strong tactical execution skills
• Significant knowledge of project management, process excellence and business analysis processes, methods, and standards
• Some North American travel required.
