Senior IS Project Engineer

Unified Technical, Inc. has a Senior Project Engineer with a global company with headquarter in Downtown Los Angeles, CA.  The position offers full benefits, holiday pay, bonus and 401K plan.


The Senior Project Engineer will assist in developing and maintaining an up to date IS Strategic Plan that is reflective of the Firm's business aims.  This position will be responsible for providing leadership, technical advice and guidance to other IS Operations engineers and analysts and shall act as an implementation consultant for strategic technologies, assuring adherence to industry standards (ITIL based).


Responsibilities:
* Keep abreast of technology trends in all aspects of network infrastructure. Be aware of the Firm's business and technology goals and assure alignment of IS Roadmap.  Initiate use of new technology when timely and appropriate.  
* Receive escalation calls from other IS Operations staff or management. Diagnose cause, formulate and apply immediate fix, prepare long term fix, log call, document resolution.
* Propose action, get agreement for project, plan implementation and carry out implement (sometimes coordinating other staff) to include documentation for operational use. All or some of these actions may be done as appropriate.
* Create and ensure adherence to scheduled processing calendars for periodic maintenance.  Conform to Change Control procedures.
* Oversight responsibility for monitoring for performance irregularities and excessive resource usage. Store data for periodic reporting and trend analysis.  When issues are discovered, assist other IS engineers to resolve them.
* Assist in developing standards for procedures and documentation for all aspects of the network infrastructure. Assure compliance with such standards.


The position is responsible for developing and supporting services provided to the entire firm.   This person will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment introducing leading-edge technologies to maintain and grow a global infrastructure based on Microsoft and Intel technologies.  This position is a senior technical role acting as a senior technical authority in IS with regard to network infrastructure, storage area networks and operating systems.  The Senior Project Engineer reports to the Associate Director of IS. 


This position performs three distinct types of work: (1) strategic planning, (2) conceptual and project based technology implementation, and (3) resolving operational and escalated problems.
Strategic planning involves understanding the Firm's business needs and satisfying those requirements using both emerging and mature technologies.  To do this the Senior Project Engineer will help to develop and maintain a strategic five year and two year plan.  These "Roadmaps" are to be kept up to date and ready for review by the Firm management at short notice.  These are to be at levels of detail suitable for both executive and IT management review. 


Once the research and analysis on new technologies has been complete and the Firm has committed to it as a project, then this role will be responsible for implementation planning including complete documentation and deployment methodologies.  Execution of implementation plans may be done by the Senior Project Engineer or other IS Operations staff. The role will either require ownership of a project and/or act as a technical resource, providing either finished work or consultancy and advice.  


As the senior technical authority in IS Operations, the role will be expected to provide assistance to all levels of staff and in resolution of technical difficulties.  In extreme circumstances, the Senior Project Engineer will assume the role of technical problem manager and own the issue to resolution. The systems and services being supported are in production and require active and continuous support up to 7 x 24.  Trouble calls are expected to be handled as they arise and commensurate with business needs.  


Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a production environment under demanding circumstances.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills working with users of varying skills and located worldwide.
- Must be able to deliver high quality work within agreed deadlines.
- Ability to apply existing skills, knowledge and techniques to new circumstances.
- Cisco and Microsoft certifications preferred.


To fulfill the responsibilities required, it is expected that the individual will have the following range and depth of knowledge, understood to expert level:
- Networking principles, design and configuration (particularly TCP/IP and SNMP compliant data acquisition).
- Excellent understanding of storage array technologies and recovery/business continuance practices.
- Microsoft Windows2003 Server and networking
- Blade Center technology
- SAN/NAS technology
- Cisco Network technology
- AT&T MPLS and AVTS WAN technologies
- CITRIX Presentation Server and VPN tunneled WAN technologies 
- VOIP technologies in general, not vendor specific 
- Microsoft Active Directory, DNS and DFS


Education/Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience and a Bachelor's degree are required.


Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder local in Southern CA for an in-person interview only.  Must be able to pass a background check.
