Position Description:
The Income Tax Analyst is an integral member of the Federal Income Tax Compliance Team. Under the direction of the Federal Income Tax Manager, the Income Tax Analyst is responsible for gathering and analyzing information necessary for the completion of correct and timely filed consolidated federal income tax return and estimated tax payments in compliance with the Internal Revenue Code and underlying Regulations.

-Actively participate on assigned teams for business units of W.W. Grainger, Inc., a $6B consolidated entity. Maintain tax packages for assigned units designed to capture information relevant to the preparation of quarterly estimated tax payments and separate and consolidated Federal income tax returns. Communicate business unit developments to all Team members.

-Prepare assigned adjustments and/or returns. Analyze and document adjustments reflected on the federal consolidated income tax return, separate returns, quarterly estimated payments, and extension payment. Analyze book treatment of items and determine proper tax treatment. Identify, document and reconcile book/tax differences to support Company’s position upon examination by the IRS.

-Apply technical skills in the federal income tax area to recognize potential problems, identify related issues, research tax authorities, and communicate information to management.

-Identify tax law changes that impact any business unit by keeping abreast of current tax developments.

-Comply with IRS requests relative to audit examinations as assigned.

Position Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Masters of Science in Taxation and CPA designation preferred.

-Five or more years of federal income tax experience including work with consolidated returns and accounting methods. Must have strong accounting skills.

-Must have good organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, and must be able to complete assigned projects while working under time constraints. Manage own workloads from preparation through review process.

-Must have good verbal and written communication skills and have ability to communicate effectively at all levels of organization to which he/she comes in contact.

-Must have working knowledge of Excel and Word. Previous experience with SAP is a plus.

-Must be alert for opportunities to improve departmental efficiencies.
