The UPCS Institute at
JFF:

JFF has designed the UPCS Institute professional development
program to help school development organizations and their schools implement a
coherent instructional approach designed to prepare all students, regardless of
their incoming skill level, for college-level work. The three-year structured program
focuses on helping
teachers to adopt a common instructional framework that uses six engaging
research-based strategies: collaborative group work, writing-to-learn, literacy
groups, questioning, scaffolding, and classroom talk. Teachers learn to use
these strategies in their classroom and design lesson and unit plans that
feature rich performance tasks aligned to college-readiness standards.
The six strategies were
selected through empirical analysis of the instructional program used at the
University Park Campus School (UPCS) in Worcester, Massachusetts and a review
of the relevant research.

UPCS has been recognized as a national model
school by the EdTrust, the Alliance for Excellent Education, the National
Association for Secondary School Principals, and others for its outstanding
record of achievement and has hosted formal trainings for over 500 visiting
educators in the last three years.
