This position is responsible for Linux JBOSS administration in production and customer testing environments for a company with a 24X7 Hosted Applications services data center utilizing Microsoft and Linux operating systems with emphasis on Linux and JBOSS knowledge in a high availability configuration running on multiple servers.
Essential Functions:
•Strong lead and team member in Linux, JVM Java technologies and application from a systems perspective
•Strong experience in networking technologies and how they interact with application components
•Strong lead and team member in Linux, JVM Java technologies and applications from a systems perspective
•Install, administer, and update servers
•Ensure operating standards are developed, maintained, and adhere to.
•Support application components in a Linux RedHat hosted environment with specific focus on JBOSS and Java
•Within our Environment team and Systems Operations Center, monitor production systems and resolve issues
Secondary Functions:
•Strong experience in systems monitoring applications. Knowledge of Cacti, APPManager, MOM, and SCOM desired
•Knowledge of Cisco network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls
•Knowledge of Windows Server environments including Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and Windows 2008
•Experience in a .NET applications environment as it pertains to Hosted Systems Operations
Scope and Accountability:
•Nature of contacts: This position will interact with primarily other Systems Engineers and other Engineering teams to exchange issues, obtain technical approaches and understand new methods and standards.
•3-5 years of experience in network or computer systems support
•Knowledge and experience in JBOSS setup, performance, and tuning
•Knowledge of setup, performance and tuning of ehcache, garbage collection and general memory tuning in RedHat
•Knowledge of server hardware and software systems; installation and configuration of software and networks. Specifically, knows Active Directory and NT domains/trusts, Proxy Server, MS IIS, Win2K/2003, DNS, WINS, DHCP, Microsoft Web Services and SQL Query Analyzer, RedHat, LDAP, and has worked with Oracle on Linux
•Knowledge or experience in Agile or SCRUM in an IT environment
•Understanding of database technologies in SQL and Oracle and the ability to add and manipulate data in and out of databases
•Analytical skills necessary to ensure assignments are implemented in a clear, controlled, anticipated fashion
•Ability to learn about procedures and technologies for systems and applications and to apply new knowledge in tasks as assigned
•Work effectively with all levels of company staff
•Certifications in RedHat, networking, or MCSE preferred
•Needs to be available for on call escalation on a rotational basis
