Acuitus is a growing company initiating a revolution in educational technology. We create automated computer-based tutoring systems that teach as well as the best human instructors do. Our aim is to give every student a world class tutor to guide them through difficult subjects, helping them to reach a level of expertise unparalleled in traditional classroom environments. Developed with funding from DARPA and the US Navy, our current computer-based tutoring system is designed to quickly transform students of widely varying background into expert systems administrator. The Digital Tutor has been teaching students at the navy Center for Information Dominance since early 2010.
The demonstrated success of Acuitus' computer-based tutoring system is due to our uncompromising focus on high quality instruction that is grounded in many years of careful design and research. We are pushing the boundaries in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, human-computer interaction, and psychology (including research in motivation, attention, and memory). We are in the process of bringing our successes in teaching systems administration to other disciplines and to larger audiences, and are well on the path to initiating a revolution in educational technology.
We are looking for senior Java developers who will participate in the development of our core tutoring platform and supporting tools. There is work to be done at all stages of the software development process: design, specification, implementation, debugging, internal testing, and field trials. We are looking for generalists who are exceptionally good at developing complex applications. That said, we are also looking to add to our resident competence, including database design, compiler development, user behavior representation and analysis, and deployment of a bandwidth intensive server-client application.
