About the SEI

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The DoD established the Software Engineering Institute in 1984 to advance the practice of software engineering because quality software that is produced on schedule and within budget is critical. The main SEI offices are located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The SEI mission is to advance software engineering and related disciplines to ensure the development and operation of systems with predictable and improved cost, schedule, and quality. To achieve its mission, the SEI strategy is to openly engage a broad-based community with a focus on improving the effects of software in the world. We create usable technologies, apply them to real problems, and amplify their impact by accelerating broad adoption. Visit the SEI website to learn more about the SEI: www.sei.cmu.edu.

Carnegie Mellon is an international research university well known for its highly rated programs in computer science and engineering. As part of Carnegie Mellon, the SEI operates at the leading edge of technical innovation. For more information, visit Carnegie Mellon's website: www.cmu.edu.
