To support this mission in today’s highly-competitive business environment, the Portfolio Strategy and Research team is responsible for:
· Framing overall portfolio strategy to insure that Marriott is positioned to capture maximum overall share of the highest value customers in the marketplace
· Developing an integrated brand knowledge architecture and functioning as internal consultant and customer / competitive knowledge repository for the company
· Leveraging strengths across the portfolio to generate portfolio-wide competitive synergy while identifying/maintaining critical distinctions for each brand
· Catalyzing innovation by identifying / validating key opportunities to drive profitable growth and guiding other functions in their design / innovation efforts
· Researching / assessing brand performance and customer, competitive and industry trends; synthesizing insights to provide direction for portfolio / brand action and innovation
Specific Job Summary
· Leads the planning and execution of business-critical, portfolio-wide communications research and advertising tracking that shapes marketing and communication strategy and direction.
· Develops and manages detailed research plans for assigned clients, based on annual brand media plans, with strict adherence to budget.
· Works with marketing clients to improve advertising performance– based on the synthesis of consumer insights from creative development, copy testing, in-market ad performance, and a deep understanding each brand’s strategy and positioning.
· Manages the efforts of external research suppliers effectively, with a continuous focus on improving their performance and the quality of their work.
· Represents MI and the research organization to internal and external stakeholders (ad agencies, media buying agencies) for both brand-specific and corporate/portfolio-wide efforts.
Specific Expected Contributions
Research & Strategy
· Leads execution of large-scale advertising and communications research programs that shape/inform overall brand communication strategies.
· Effectively directs multiple external research suppliers/associates, insuring that they clearly understand/deliver on project objectives in a timely, high quality, and cost-effective manner.
· Plans/leverages research efforts across MI brands to minimize investment, maximize value to MI.
· Synthesizes research findings from multiple sources and, drawing upon general business knowledge, develops meaningful insights and clear implications for action.
· Leads/directs both quantitative and qualitative research efforts.
Business Partner
· Collaborates with internal clients and external agencies to develop communications strategies based on research insights coupled with deep understanding of business.
· Is a resource/consultant on advertising trends in the lodging industry.
· Effectively communicates research findings/direction to broad range of internal/external stakeholders – tailoring messages as appropriate to maximize learning and pull-through.
Leadership
· Represents MI and the research team to multiple external organizations as needed (e.g. ad agencies, consultants and research vendors, industry organizations, research-related organizations, etc.)
· Proactively manages relationships with assigned research vendors.
Candidate Profile
· 7+ years market research experience; including broad range of methodologies and business issues
· Prior in-depth experience in advertising and communications research highly desirable
· Advanced degree in business, marketing research, or other quantitative discipline
· Demonstrated success in translating research insights into actionable recommendations
· Outstanding project management skills, with the ability to manage to tight timelines
· Self-confidence, focus and bias for action
· Strong relationship-building skills
· Creativity and innovative problem-solving ability
· Highly effective oral and written communication skills
