Responsibilities
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will significantly contribute to the design and development of highly complex mechanical systems, often for robotics or autonomous vehicle applications. The successful candidate is expected to be a leader in innovation and able to help expand the capabilities of the current group in the areas of advanced mechanical system design, integration, and test. Particular experience with the conceptualization, design, and development of micro- and nano-molded polymer structures, especially for adhesive applications; MEMS devices and process design; and/or biomedical technologies is a plus. The candidate will be expected to:
¿ Perform conceptual design with supporting analysis (including trade studies, performance estimates, material selection, and cost estimation). May require working closely with system engineering and engineers from other disciplines in the context of an integrated product development team.
¿ Interface with, and contribute to, multidisciplinary teams as lead or supporting mechanical engineer, as well as work closely with the internal program offices, university subcontractors, and customers to explore new business opportunities, and help expand mechanical engineering's strategic technology roadmap.
¿ Plan, oversee and contribute to fabrication as needed to meet required performance, cost, and schedule objectives. Familiarity with use of machine tools and processes. This may include vendor review/ qualification, interfacing with Draper purchasing, regular progress reports/visits as program needs dictate.
¿ Have strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Conduct and support technical and program reviews associated with a program. Provide reports of progress and results to team members, management and customers in verbal or written form. Flexibility to multitask and adapt to changing technologies and priorities is vital.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred with suitable academic experience. B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 to 15 years experience demonstrating requisite skills and responsibility will be considered.
