Position Description Senior Media Relations Specialist

The San Francisco office of Fleishman-Hillard has an immediate opening for an experienced senior media relations specialist to join our thriving technology practice. The position provides a fantastic opportunity for a passionate PR practitioner to grow and work closely with energetic senior management on global brands. Candidate will work in a challenging yet rewarding environment with collaborative teams to proactively tell the story of FH’s clients to external audiences. | Responsibilities: | The senior media relations specialist will work cross-functionally within the SF technology practice to ensure the success of media relations programs, and support the overall strategic direction for editorial placement by developing story ideas with and/or for key account teams.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Review/assess industry trends to identify opportunities to inject FH’s clients into current news cycles; drive story idea development, work closely with media to shape and control communications that are in line with overall account objectives. • Lead media brainstorming session for clients and/or account teams. • Develop and implement strategic media plans and recommendations for a variety of client scenarios including product launches, corporate initiatives, and visibility campaigns. • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with targeted reporters on behalf of key technology clients of FH San Francisco. • Design and implement a creative communications program that includes broadcast PR tactics to increase the visibility of FH’s clients. • Provide media coaching to clients; develop and/or customize media materials for media consumption, including writing press materials; manage distribution of PR materials; manage proactive broadcast media relations, including pitching, targeted media list creation, relationship-building, etc. • Function as key player in pursuing new business opportunities and in leading creative media strategies for proposals | Qualifications: | • A minimum of 4-6 years of technology communications experience, with proven experience and strong understanding of the communications field, preferably in public relations, media relations or public affairs. • Advanced knowledge of business media and well-developed skills in building and maintaining media relationships. A demonstrated hands-on media approach is required. • Strong relationships and demonstrable experience with national business and technology media, as well as regional outlets are required. • Broad technology business understanding, strong analytical abilities and critical, creative thinking. Candidate should have the ability to tell complex stories in an easily digestible way. • Proven strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience handling comprehensive writing projects • Demonstrated strong networking skills • A combination of agency and corporate experience is ideal, though not essential. • Experience with new digital media and social networking tactics and program development. • Ability to work in a diverse multi-cultural and cross-regional environment, both independently and as part of a team. __________________________________________________________________________________
