One (1) year (52 weeks) with two (2) one (1) Year Options.  Option to hire after 6 months.


 


Job Description:


Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.


 


Responsible for: System and network administration of UNIX development and test environments and related production application deployment activities; identifying internal and external needs (architecture, scalability, physical requirements, etc.); installing, configuring, upgrading and maintaining UNIX workstations and servers, including operating systems, web servers, printers and queues; resources; power management, and TCP/IP services in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements; monitoring, evaluating, identifying problems with hardware / software installation and operation and tuning the system to achieve optimum level of performance; backing up the system, applications, and application data files and restore files from tape in accordance with backup and recovery processes; working closely with customer, requirements, development, database, deployment and test personnel to deliver high quality software.


 


REQUIRED:


At least nine years of experience (or seven years of experience with a Masters degree) as a system administrator with UNIX OSs, OS admin and management, OS monitoring and tuning, hardware setup and configuration, OS installation / migration / cloning / patching / maintenance levels, disk subsystem configuration, file system and logical volume planning and configuration, user account/group management, performance monitoring, I/O tuning, system backup and restore, daily security checks, third party software installation and upgrades, network maintenance, asynchronous and serial communication configuration, scheduled system health checks, scripting, system administration procedure documentation, analysis of requirements, new system planning, customer support, system related problem determination and resolution; ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly with minimal support and guidance, effective communication skills, ability to interact professionally with both clients and peers, excellent problem solving skills, willingness to take the initiative; ability to work productively in teams.


 


PREFERRED:


Knowledge of and system and network administration experience with IBM pSeries servers including p630, p650, p520 & p570 RS6000 PCI and MC hardware, DS4000 SAN, SAN Switches, AIX, LPAR, VIO Server, HMC, SMS, LVM, JFS, JFS2, SMIT, NIM, Sysback, SDD, Tivoli Storage Manager, VG/LV mirroring, virtualization engine, I/O performance, vmstat, iostat, system cloning and migration, disaster recovery, scripting, SAN, RAID, TCP/IP, NFS, security, performance monitoring and tuning, SSH, procedure documentation and implementation, customer service and support; version control (StarTeam preferred), LDAP, ITDS, Apache, IHS, SSL, COTS installation and administration (WebSphere, webMethods, Cognos, Oracle), SQL, PL/SQL, Windows operating systems, Windows Active Directory, Linux, Checkpoint, Cisco, Network Monitoring, Edge Components, NAS, and COTS installation and administration including Star Team, Quality Center, TopTeam, McAfee, VMware, DNS, VoIP, VPN/SSL, Web Servers (IIS & Apache), and Oracle Client.


TYPICAL MINIMUM:


Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience / combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
