Northrop Grumman Adaptive Optics Associates (AOA) designs, develops and manufactures a wide variety of standard and custom electro-optic and opto-mechanical products. The position involves assembly, alignment and testing of micro-optical and opto-mechanical assemblies and under limited supervision of an engineer. This position may involve working with fiber optic based components including fusion splicing and will include assembly, bonding and testing of complex optical modules and submodules containing these components. Duties may include utilizing optical test equipment, conducting tests, and recording data, using Work Orders, filling out Configuration Audit sheets and helping to maintain Build Books.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

-  Active, Top Secret security clearance required.

 

5+ years experience with assembly and alignment of small opto-mechanical assemblies and micro-optical systems and components, using a microscope if necessary

 

-  Experience with the use of optical test equipment, including optical power meters and lasers

  

-  Specific experience with handling, testing, splicing, bonding and assembly of optical fibers and/or optical fiber pigtailed devices a plus.

 

-  Familiarity with handling critical optical components and the use of optical test equipment, including optical power meters, lasers, and microscopes, is required.

  

- Must possess good written communication skills to document work performed.

 

Assets (Preferred qualifications):

 

-  An Associates Degree (AS) in an optics or mechanical technology

 

-  Experience working in a low volume production environment utilizing Work Orders, Configuration Audit Sheets and maintaining Build Books

 

-  Experience with bonding optics and using epoxies appropriate for the application.

 

-  Experience with electronics/electrical test methods.

 

-  Basic machine tool operation experience.
