ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Coordinate team strategy to maintain computer equipment in working order; respond to reports of equipment malfunction; diagnose, repair, replace, and adjust PC’s, laptops, and servers.
Assist in training of City staff on supported software; ensure that City staff is adequately knowledgeable in hardware use; provide technical support to City staff with various applications to perform daily tasks.
Provide assistance to front line Help Desk staff; receive incoming complaints; prioritize complaints; ensure complaint resolution; maintain accurate log of complaints and resolutions; provide support for hardware and software products.
Maintaining legal licensing, hardware inventory, and maintenance schedules; provide anti-virus integrity monitoring.
Monitor system performances; prepare progress reports; document operational troubleshooting procedures.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Techniques and procedures for warranty and hardware parts installation replacement, and repair; software and operating systems including Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003; operating characteristics of information systems equipment including host computers, network servers/gateways, printers, storage systems, controllers/multiplexers, network hubs/concentrators, bridges, communication switches, scanners, laptop, terminals, PC workstations, and other central or peripheral devices; and file database backup and restoration.
Skill to: Provide fast and superb customer service while dealing with user issues. Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software.
Ability to: Advise and provide interpretation to others on the application of policies, procedures and standards to specific situations; set up and configure WLAN, VPN, WIFI Connections and phones; analyze and solve network, phone, and voicemail systems problem; perform hardware installations on PC’s, network, and phone cabling; perform active directory group and computer administration tasks; troubleshoot problems related to user authentication, resource access permissions, and system network functions; promote a high support level to ensure that users’ issues are resolved quickly; read and understand professional manuals, journals, and literature; prioritize requests for service; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience:
Five years of PC technical support experience including telephone switch maintenance and voice messaging system.
Training:
Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, the following: CompTIA A+ Core Hardware exam 220-301; CompTIA A+ Operating System Technologies exam 220-302; and MS Office specialist.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment. Ability to work in a standard office environment with some ability to kneel, stoop, climb and lift 75 lbs.; some exposure to outdoors, vibration, and mechanical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
