Supports the implementation of UHS Pharmacy and Pharmacy Related applications in a Multi-Entity, 20 plus Acute Care Hospital Environment. Monitors the resolution of maintenance or enhancement issues assigned by the UHS Customer Support Center. Design new or determine modifications to existing applications that will effectively accomplish desired objectives. Provides technical support to UHS entities as needed. Coordinates work assignments given in order to meet deadlines and ensure continued progress toward assignment completion. Shares experience and expertise with other members of team. Serves as lead on Pharmacy System Conversions and Implementations. May supervise one or more IS Analysts.
Essential Job Duties
System Implementation
- Regularly meets with users, vendors, BOS, Pharmacy Advisory Committee and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
- Designs solutions for applications and prepares the appropriate documentation.
- Supervises development of test data, system testing and documentation for all phases of the application development life cycle.
- Performs Q/A on application functionality.
- Researches and resolves implementation-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
- Adheres to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
- Ensures strict adherence to work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
- Oversees the training of users in operating procedures for application.
- Maintains the Pharmacy Conversion and Implementation Project Plans and actively meets with stakeholders to drive project related tasks, communications and milestones.
System Maintenance/Support
- Researches and resolves Customer Support Center Tickets including major application upgrades.
- Adheres to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
- Provides on-call support as scheduled.
- Maintains End User, System and process documentation.
- Establishes and maintains regular communications with user community.
- Performs routine system maintenance including but not limited to Security, Printers and Print routing, Profile settings and Nurse Stations; Room and Bed.
Administration and Oversight
- Effectively trains analysts in performance of their duties as required.
- Provides technical support and guidance to other team members as required.
- Maintains Service Excellence principles.
- Prepares and promptly submits all routine and special reports.
- Interviews applicants for vacant positions as needed using appropriate interview techniques.
- Contributes to performance evaluation of junior staff members as needed.
- Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems through regular status updates and trip reports.
- Performs other tasks as required by management.
Continuing Education
- Keeps up-to-date on relevant Pharmacy System Version Changes, Bug-Fix, and release notes
- Keeps abreast on relevant Regulatory Requirements that impact the Pharmacy System such as JCAHO, FDA, and various State Pharmacy Board Regulations.
- Actively participates in increasing education of the Pharmacy System functionality through Webinars, User Group meetings, Vendor Classes and List Serve, etc.

Job Requirements:
Knowledge: Three or more years of progressively more responsible Pharmacy Information Systems experience.
Skills: Working knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement and support methods and practices. Comprehensive working knowledge of Pharmacy and related computer systems such as Med Distribution and Order Management Systems (ie. Pyxis and Pyxis Connect), analysis and programming techniques and procedures, including: consulting with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications; design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, coding, debugging, or modification of computer systems or programs based on and related to user design specifications. Working knowledge of IS standards and quality methods and metrics. Working knowledge of project management methods. General familiarity of user business practices, concepts and terminology sufficient to support the applications. Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.
Large scale healthcare systems planning and implementation experience in integrated application software products is preferred.
Travel Requirements: 5 – 25% domestic US travel (depending on projects and Go Lives).
