Department Overview

The Symantec Management Platform (SMP) is the core of Symantec's security strategy for the Enterprise. Its open architecture supports rapid delivery of integrated solutions in order to react to customers' changing needs. Some key Enterprise products (including Symantec Endpoint Protection, Backup Exec System Recovery, Veritas Configuration Manager, and Data Loss Prevention) are already integrated with the SMP. Now SMP forms the basis for the Protection Center, Symantec's new security management brand that will offer better protection and reduce the cost of security management by providing a unified web console, integrations and control across products, and actionable cross-product reporting.

Responsibilities

• Own planning and delivery of one or more high risk, large scope complex projects that affect the organizations long-term goals and objectives
• Interface with Sr. Management to provide and obtain information and build consensus regarding project direction
• Create and own project master schedule optimizing for project specific priorities
• Lead the team through the product lifecycle working with peer functional managers (Product Management, Development, and QA) to continuously manage trade-offs between quality, schedule, scope, and resources
• Uncover, manage and resolve project interdependencies and proactively manage risks
• Anticipate and solves problems related to project issues
• Central communicator (owns team PR") and facilitator for project team
• Create novel and innovative processes, techniques, tools and management practices to push the state of the art in Program Management as practiced at Symantec
• Provide guidance to less senior PGMs and technical staff

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience in commercial software project management, significant additional management experience preferred
• Thorough understanding of project/product life cycle and experience leading at least 3 full release cycles of a commercial software product
• Strong project estimation, organization, scheduling and planning skills
• Working knowledge of a variety of software development methodologies and project management tools
• Able to solve complex problems requiring analysis of intangible variables in addition to large amounts of data, deal with high degree of ambiguity, and maintain composure in stressful confrontational situations
• Able to motivate and influence internal and external project team members to establish team cohesion
• A thought leader and expert practitioner of Program Management
• Master's degree (preferably MSCS or similar); PMI, CSM or similar certifications or experience preferred
