Principle Engineering Technician-Electrical
Job Description
Principal Electrical and electronic engineering technicians help design, develop, test, manufacture, and repair electrical and electronic equipment.
Principal Electrical and electronic engineering technicians generally work under the supervision of electrical engineers or project managers. Technicians perform a wide variety of different tasks depending on the needs of the company.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In addition to Senior Engineering Technician- must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Perform highly complex technical functions in support of engineering activities such as set up, operation, maintenance modification, circuit testing, calibration and troubleshooting of electronic or electro-mechanical components and systems.
· Direct complex engineering tests to collect design data or assist in general research work.
· Diagnose and isolate equipment and system malfunctions which fail to respond to standard corrective measures and make necessary repairs.
· Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technicians.
· Serve as team leader.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Completed some form of vocational, maritime, or electrical journeyman training program.
Eleven plus years of related work experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, alarms, and equipment aboard ships.
Additional licensure or certification may be required.
Good interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team and to effectively give detailed instructions to others.
Senior Engineering Technician-Electrical

Senior Electrical and electronic engineering technicians help design, develop, test, manufacture, and repair electrical and electronic equipment.
Senior Electrical and electronic engineering technicians generally work under the supervision of principle engineering technician electrical or project manager. Technicians perform a wide variety of different tasks depending on the needs of the company.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In addition to Engineering Technician-Electrical must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Quality Assurance Program knowledge
· Knowledge in Navy electronics systems.
· Able to troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect electrical equipment.
· Able to clean electrical equipment and parts using steam cleaning and solvents, reassemble, and operationally test equipment.
· Knowledge of shipboard electrical systems i.e., switchboards, switchgear etc. and rotating electrical equipment.
· Able to read blueprints, schematic designs, diagrams.
· Ability to work with limited supervision.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Completed some form of vocational, maritime, or electrical journeyman training program.
Six to ten years of related work experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, alarms, and equipment aboard ships.
