Senior Program Manager
Position Description:
RealNetworks, Inc. is a rapidly growing, web based, digital music, online gaming and streaming company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, that provides the universal platform for the delivery of any digital media, from any point of origin, across virtually any network, to any person on any Internet-enabled device, anywhere in the world.
The Media Applications Platform Services team builds the core systems that drive RealNetwork’s various consumer services, including: RealGuide, RealArcade, RollingStone.com, and the Rhapsody Subscription Music Service. These core systems include a state of the art content management system, user data services, and media authentication/authorization systems.
The Content Management System (CMS) Group, part of RealNetworks’ consumer platform, provides content management services/solutions for all of RealNetworks consumer services including Rhapsody, Realarcade.com, Film.com etc. The content management system includes a core data model to store meta-data, a rich set of web services and editorial tools, a fast publishing platform and a service layer backed by a caching model to expose content meta-data.
The Content Management Services Platform Group is seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Program Manager with a strong interest in evolving industrial strength and business critical Content services and APIs.
As a Program Manager, you will be responsible for planning, specification, scheduling, and coordination of development projects. You will work very closely with other program managers, product marketing, development and QA teams, and other RealNetworks product and technology teams.
Candidates must have solid technical/system analyst skills to allow productive project definition and communication with developers. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to juggle large numbers of projects, exhibit great attention to detail and have excellent project management skills. A strong practical business sense is essential as is a demonstrated ability to work effectively with many teams to deliver complex projects on time. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills. Development projects may include regular shorter duration releases (weekly) and medium/long term initiatives. Minimum experience requirements include at least 4 years program management continuous experience on large, high availability systems. At least 2-3 years of development or SDET experience is essential as well.
Essential Functions:
1. Program management of CMS services. Includes assistance with high level scoping, requirements definition and creation of functional specification documentation. - 40%
2. Project management of CMS-related projects. Management of schedules, deliverables, issue tracking and status reporting. Close and ongoing interaction with development and QA staff. - 40%
3. Project coordination and prioritization with other RealNetworks organizations. - 10%
4. Helping plan the future of RealNetworks’ CMS systems and build product roadmaps. - 10%
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum:
• Strong technical ability. Be able to grasp existing system knowledge and apply knowledge to gather requirements for system extensions
• Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects.
• PGM experience working in agile and iterative methodology.
• Be able to write effective functional requirements/specification
• Great attention to detail and follow through on various tasks
• Candidates with experience working with offshore teams.
• Be able to effectively communicate with other PGMs, Development, QA and Product Management groups
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
• Good understanding of modern multi-tier architecture and distributed systems.
• Good understanding of Java, XML and Web services oriented development
Preferred:
• Candidates with experience leading a PGM team will be preferred
• Knowledge of and experience with web/middle-tier technologies, frameworks e.g., (Linux, Java, Tomcat etc)
Education, Certification, and/or Training:
Minimum:
• B.S. in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline.
Preferred:
• PMI Training, Scrum master or certification is a plus
• Experience with project management tools such as MS Project
• Experience in content management systems such as Vignette/ Documentum etc.
Experience:
Minimum:
• At least 4 years PGM experience in 24x7 large, high availability system environment
• At least 2 to 3 years development or SDET experience
Preferred:
• 5-7 years experience delivering large software projects preferred
• At least 1 year experience building Content Management Systems, in a PGM/Dev/QA role, is a plus
