Senior Project and Controls Engineer

 

The NatGasCar LLC, a member of the Dan T. Moore Company portfolio of companies located in Cleveland, OH, is seeking a senior project engineer to assist in engineering and developing NatGasCar’s goals and objectives. NatGasCar LLC is working on a transformational solutions to eliminate the major barriers to the widespread use of natural gas vehicles.  These barriers include limited Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling stations and slow conversion rates of the US car fleet from gasoline to a cleaner fuel source.  NatGasCar Co is pursue multiple “green” technical solutions to the US energy problems focused on the use of compressed natural gas as a vehicle propulsion fuel. 

 

Position Summary:

 

The Senior Project and Controls Engineer’s main function will be to assist in the design, development and engineering of the control system for a Vehicle Refueling Appliance (VRA) both for home and vehicle installed units.  In addition, the position will require the individual to perform multiple assignments of moderate to complex scope with minimal guidance from management and/or detailed procedures.  The assignments will have a clear objective, but the path to success will be roughly defined.  Therefore, the position will require the individual to apply standard engineering techniques, follow implied and specified safety and design standards, and create an organizational plan to accomplish goals.

 

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

 

·        Manages all aspects of design and development of a functioning control system for VRA’s and vehicle integration kits for CNG conversions.

·        Performs durability and reliability testing of control system to ensure trouble free use for the consumer. 

·        Aides and indentifies outside vendors that can help meet and exceed the goals and objectives of the company.

·        Maintains and updates the Bill of Materials (BOM) for all current and future projects created and developed by the company.

·        Formulates plans and implements changes to drive continuous product and product line improvements using input from both internal and external channels.

·        Provides engineering input for each sub-system being developed at the company including thermodynamic pressure systems, Failure Effects Analysis (FEA), Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD), and heat transfer calculations.

·        Maintains a working knowledge of federal, state and local code requirements and applies knowledge to design and development of the company’s products and systems.

·        Interacts with organizations such as UL and CSA to achieve product certification and safety requirements.

·        Assist President of organization with orchestrating all aspects of system, product, and infrastructure program management.  This will include green field development of manufacturing location, engineering CNG conversion kits, and development of CNG compressor.

Position Requirements:

 

Education:

 

BS degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with a focus on control systems.

 

Experience: 

5+ years of experience as a controls engineer and systems program manager.  Formal exposure to other departments such as manufacturing, procurement & supply, and quality will be considered a plus.

 

Skills/Knowledge:

 

Has the ability to handle multiple complex problems and deliver results in a timely manner.  In order to meet deadlines the candidate must possess strong organizational skills utilizing standard program management skills.  In addition mechanical aptitude and an understanding of vehicle system is a plus.

 

Formal training in the following areas is key success factors for this position:

 

·        Working knowledge of Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLC’s

·        Understanding of AC & DC variable speed drives and motors

·        Design experience with power distribution systems both AC &DC

·        Ability to integrate pressure, temperature, and natural gas sensors into a cohesive operational system.

·        Ability to interpret 3D and 2D designs and models.  Pro-E and/or AutoCAD experience will be considered a plus.
