Senior Project Engineer / HVAC Equipment Sales Support

Under general direction, executes assigned equipment projects and ensures that assigned projects are executed profitably, accurately, on-time, within the scope of the contract and in alignment with customer expectations. Follows consistent and repeatable basic project management practices and follows the formal Johnson Controls equipment order execution process. Develops and provides detailed engineering information and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operation and installation requirements to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls service and necessary subcontractors. Works with the sales team to maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results. Although not the primary focus, supports the sales team by assisting with pre-sales activities on strategic District opportunities. Pre-sales activities include but are not limited to system configuration, engineered equipment selection and equipment pricing.
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  1. Manages the execution of the equipment orders from order commitment through final payment and customer satisfaction utilizing the Johnson Controls equipment order execution process.

  2. Actively manages project turnover process between equipment sales and equipment order execution.

  3. Interprets engineering drawings and specifications in order to actively develop and provide engineered equipment submittals in compliance with; contract drawing, site coordination, and site installation requirements.

  4. Follows standardized submittal generation guidelines for both preparing and processing of engineering submittals. Performs final coil selection, coil hand coordination, fan selection, chiller performance verification, chiller configuration and option selection so as to match schedule, drawing and specification requirements. Verifies that Johnson Controls has an "approved" submittal and positive configuration acceptance by the installing contractor prior to releasing equipment for fabrication.

  5. Evaluates the contractual scope of supply and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives and/or scheduling changes. Works with the sales team to ensure additional work results in appropriate change orders. Performs associated cost estimates, prepares proposals and supports sales in negotiating final settlement price and customer acceptance resulting from scope of supply changes.

  6. Coordinates the factory equipment order process to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site coordination requirements.

  7. Generates technical content of Purchase Orders for field purchased materials and equipment.

  8. Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects.  Coordinates shipping processes to meet factory and project schedule requirements and reviews the equipment order status reports on a weekly basis, identifying any critical delivery requirements.

  9. Acts as liaison between the factory and sales office; and the sales office and the customer.

  10. Effectively communicates project progress, issues and financial status to management as required.

  11. Reviews vendor invoices for technical and commercial compliance prior to approving payment.

  12. Coordinates post shipment services that may include start-up initiation and solutions to delivery, shipping or scope omission problems.

  13. Ensures project documentation is compliant with contract requirements, Johnson Controls standards and the formal Johnson Controls equipment order execution process.

  14. On occasion, prepares customer proposals and quote letters as assigned by the District Sales Manager. Activities may include; performing project takeoffs, engineering specification review, special quote generation and RFQ issuance.

  15. Periodically answers engineered equipment application questions from potential customers and other sales channels.

  16. Assists District Manager and/or sales team in project development efforts.

  17. Completes Commercial Cost of Quality claim form process. Assists the District Sales Manager and sales team in complying with the Cost of Quality Policy and Procedures.

  18. Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors. Attends job progress meetings as required.

  19. Coordinates customer-training requirements with local Johnson Controls service.


Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent, plus four years related field work experience in analysis and research. Computer skills experience to include: Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Writer, Visio and basic Windows environment. Ability to work independently. Good organizational skills with attention to detail. Interpersonal skills to  effectively communicate with both internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to simultaneously handle a large and diverse number of projects and issues with tact, cooperation, and persistence.
