Position Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer performs senior level project engineering work within the Engineering Methods Group, specific to Assembly and Test related processes. The position requires application of standard and advanced assembly and test techniques, procedures and criteria in developing/improving processes and/or systems. Provide leadership and oversight to the assessment and improvement of processes, methods and equipment. This position independently develops clear and specific objectives and manages project details for given assignments that may require the investigation of several alternative solutions. Effectively leads and manages projects relative to their schedule, quality, cost, technical objectives and conformance to requirements. Builds effective relationships through partnering and collaboration. Develops thoughts and ideas into engineered solutions with approval from supervisor and provides guidance to co-ops, contract engineers, technicians and other engineers. Effectively participates in a team setting to achieve results. Effectively leads moderate to large projects and teams. Trains other engineers and technicians in the use of sound engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, create, and apply manufacturing best practices and standards
  • Actively participate in the development of co-ops, technicians, and other engineers
  • Lead manufacturing methods projects of moderate to large scope
  • Act as a vital resource for technical questions related to manufacturing and quality processes
  • Continually seek new manufacturing technology and processing methods that will improve the productivity, cost, quality, and agility of manufacturing
  • Identify and proactively address technical and resource issues and risks ensuring project milestones are met
  • Utilize the knowledge management network, both formal and informal, to develop the best practical solution and offer feedback to peers, when needed
  • Determine manufacturing costs using established or customized methodologies
  • Troubleshoot process, tooling, quality, and equipment problems
  • Specify customized equipment and develop commissioning plans with acceptance criteria
  • Coordinates activity of assigned team including identifying resources and developing schedule Facilitates small group meetings and effectively presents and interacts with plant and functional managers.
  • Reviews assigned project plans on a periodic basis to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Ensures that assigned projects adhere to current project management, security, quality, engineering and customer service requirements and standards
  • Monitors and evaluates all project activities

Position Requirements:

Education: BS degree in engineering plus appropriate continuous training.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in a project and or manufacturing engineering position or equivalent. Experience leading mid to large size manufacturing projects. Some formal exposure to areas outside of own department. Recognized as a key resource or subject matter expert in areas of expertise.

Skills/Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of engineering principles, especially related to manufacturing methods, machining equipment, and tooling. Ability to solve complex problems and complete multiple projects, uses advanced problem solving methods to make decisions. Applies proven technology independently. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong computer and office software skills. Ability to build effective relationships through partnering and collaboration. Strength in enlisting the talents of others to help meet objectives, even those that are peer level or that report to other parts of the organization.
