SENIOR QUALITY ASSURANCE ENGINEER

OutStart Inc., a leader in the learning and knowledge-sharing market has an immediate opening for a Sr. Quality Assurance Engineer working with the Development Team based in Boston’s Financial District.

As part of our Quality Assurance Team, the successful candidate will help ensure quality releases of a complex enterprise software application by being accountable for test planning, test execution, and defect management. They will also help to formulate, implement, and maintain cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting software systems, and take part in other key activities to continuously improve quality throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will possess:

·          Three to four years proven experience testing enterprise software applications for the commercial marketplace and in the following areas:

• Writing test plans at both the strategic product level and the more detailed feature or subsystem level
• Performing integration, functionality, system, regression and user acceptance testing on multi-tier, web-based software and  commercial software testing tools and methodologies
• Collaborating with product designers and software engineers
• Involvement with the complete software product life cycle
• Ability to lead small projects and being responsible for one or two other team members.
• Knowledgeable with Java and scripting languages such as PHP, JavaScript Knowledgeable with common databases used in industry such as MSSQL, MYSQL and Oracle.
• Be a well organized team player with strong attention to details who must be able to shift direction and project focus as needs of the organization arises
• Ability to rely on past experience, good judgment, and solid troubleshooting skills to accomplish assigned tasks and goals
• Be self-motivated; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to produce quality work with minimum supervision.
• Demonstrates creativity and a passion for helping develop world class software

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·          Assess the key quality risks introduced in each release of a major commercial software product.  Use that information to assess and prioritize testing activities and write a strategic plan for managing the product quality assurance process.

·          Write detailed test plans for new product functionality.  Participate in the ongoing testing of the product based on your test plans.

·          Log defects in a defect management system and track these defects through their lifecycle.

·          Develop “real world” customer based usage scenarios that can be used to test the product under various configurations and environments.

·          Participate in design reviews, defect triage, and the definition and development of quality assurance processes and procedures.

·          Work closely with colleagues, developers, project managers, and internal and external clients to develop comprehensive testing plans to ensure accuracy and timelines of software changes.

·          Track software quality metrics and assess additional testing activities that are required at various stages of the System Testing, Release, and Maintenance phases.

·          May occasionally lead and direct the work of others.

·          Coordinate with and report progress to the Director of Quality Assurance.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree preferred
