Senior SQL Database Administrator (1645)

Description

Currently, Protective Life is Looking for a Senior SQL Database Administrator in its Birmingham, AL corporate headquareters. The Senior SQL DBA will provide senior level database administration functions for Protective Life’s Microsoft SQL Server environment.  This person will be involved in the engineering functions and strategic planning of the Protective Life database environment.  There will also be maintenance, day to day operations and project work for the Protective Life SQL Server database systems.  The position requires the ability to provide 24/7 on call support on a rotation basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with application development teams to perform database requests for Microsoft SQL Server based applications.  This includes the creation, maintenance and migration of database objects.
  • Perform troubleshooting and resolving database related issues, working with senior Database administrators, developers and systems engineers as needed.
  • Perform regular proactive monitoring of database environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Work on projects as assigned, including strategic planning and engineering activities.
  • Knowledge transfer and mentoring of other database administrators.


Required Experience

Requirements:

  • Requires 8+ years IT experience with 5 years as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005 is required.  Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is a plus.
  • Experience working in a large database environment
  • Knowledge of SCOM (Systems Center Operations Manager) SQL Management packs is a plus
  • Experience with creating and maintaining a high availability Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • SQL Server Database Administration certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server BI Tools.  (SSIS, SSRS & SSAS). 
  • Excellent customer service skills as well as effective verbal and written communications skills in both business and technical environments
  • Experience working with third party database administration tools is a plus.  (Backup, job scheduling, etc.)
