Position Overview:
You will solve: a singularly unique problem in distributed systems - huge payloads (often 20MB +) with minimal latency (the payload has to reach users within seconds).
You will impact: tens of millions of users worldwide with your code touching potentially billions of dollars per year in transactions.
Expedia, the largest Online Travel Agency, is looking for an highly talented Senior Software Design Engineer to join the Expedia Web Services Development team. EWS produces an enterprise web service platform, new innovation and core services consumed by Expedia partner and sister companies. These are exciting times for EWS as we're launching new product lines to the world - join us and help set the standard!
In this role, you will be working closely with developers and architects on new code in Java, some C++, and SQL to build new services, interface with legacy systems and expose Expedia inventory and functionality through online services. We need a passionate developer with very high aptitude who can help us build high performance, highly available systems. Some of the biggest names on the planet are currently or will become our clients so you'll get a chance to see your work being used and appreciated by people everywhere.
Finally (but just as important), this is a team filled with people who love technology and thrive in ambiguous situations which require a high level of initiative. We enjoy working with each other and understand that close-knit teams do a much better job of bringing products to life.
Responsibilities:
• Work in tandem with architects and other software engineers to design and own your piece of the platform from conception .
• Have a strong eye for the operational aspects of the platform such as performance tuning, monitoring, fault-tolerance.
• Prototype creative solutions quickly, and be able to lead others in crafting and implementing superior technical vision.
• Work with our off-shore engineering team to support and accelerate service implementation and testing.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years relevant industry experience in Java/C++ with at least 5 of those years in Java.
• BS or MS, in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Expert level skills with at least three of the following technologies: Java, SOAP, Rest, Fast Infoset or Protobuf and the Spring Framework.
• A proven track record of delivering and operating large-sized internet-scale software systems.
