Senior Software Engineer

Overview


Actia Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of instrumentation and on-board electronics for commercial vehicles has an open position for a Senior Software Engineer.  Work as a cooperative member of the Engineering team to assist the Engineers in producing a smooth efficient flow of quality work through the department.  This is an engineering position for someone with a proven track record in engineering.  Formal training or considerable experience in software is expected.  Effective communication skills (both written and spoken) and experience working with a small core development team of 3-5 people is desired as well.


 


 


Position qualifications: 


·        Embedded software design and development experience using c/c++ for 8/16 bit microcontrollers, preferably in automotive market (4 yr minimum)


·        Structured software design cycle including verification/validation


·        Software design experience with at least 2 of the following micro controllers/development packages: 


o       Fujitsu 16-bit, SoftTune,


o       ARM,


o       Cypress pSOC,


o       Infineon,


o       Keil uVision,


o       Freescale,


o       Metrowerks,


o       PIC


·        Knowledge of/experience with CAN communication protocol, including J1939 and/or GMLAN protocols,


·        Experience with CAN development tools, including Vector CANalyzer/CAPL and Intrepid VehicleSpy


·        Windows programming experience using Visual C++ and/or Borland C Builder/Delphi,


 


Design responsibilities



  • Detailed design engineering of software,

  • Responsible that all software engineering activities are properly completed

  • Programming as required,

  • Produce project-related documentation, including functional specifications and software design specifications,

  • Assist in the production startup of products (interaction with other departments for completing prototypes and projects.)

 


Management responsibilities



  • Call project design review meetings as necessary

  • Estimate the time required to complete projects

  • Generate project specifications, proposals, timelines, support documentation, etc. as required

  • Provide technical assistance to customers applying and servicing Actia products

 


Miscellaneous responsibilities



  • Investigate new technologies, processes, and methods for improving efficiencies, increasing competitiveness and generating new products

  • Offer training assistance to software engineers

  • Maintain time records and project reports as required

  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor. 

  • Occasional travel to customers and vendors, with possible overnight stays may be required. 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the office or business community. 

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
