Senior Software QA Engineer

- Ensure the quality of NYTimes.com software products by writing and executing test plans and and automated test scripts.

- Write code and program testing protocols and plans.

- Perform manual testing as needed.

- Validate and troubleshoot reported bugs and clearly communicate problems and severity to appropriate IT personnel.

- Work with little supervision and occasionally direct the work of junior QA analysts

- Act as a liaison and advocate on issues pertaining to the quality of the site including performance, functionality, layout, and cross-browser and cross-platform usability.

- Triage bug reports from NYTimes.com staff, including both technical and non-technical staff and customer service.



Requirements

- 5+ years experience in Web software quality assurance.

- A comprehensive understanding of the software quality assurance process, and experience developing quality assurance standards

- Experience with automated QA testing tools, particularly Selenium and Mercury

- A demonstrated ability to take initiative and creatively solve problems without supervision

- Strong communication skills with a proven ability to interact with technical, business, editorial and customer service groups.

- Ability to conscientiously manage and follow up on multiple concurrent tasks and requests on tight deadlines.

- Attention to detail, thoroughness, and tenacity, and an investigative drive to discover the underlying causes of technical problems.

- Facility with SQL, HTML, CSS and Javascript.

- B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, or a degree in a related field.

- Above all, a willingness and ability to maintain the high quality standards of The New York Times.
