Senior/Staff Scientist

Early stage diagnostic firm is seeking a Senior or Staff Scientist.   The company is focused on the development of a molecular assay system for colorectal cancer. The scientist position will report to the Director, Research and Development and work on the research and development of molecular assays for specific DNA targets. The Scientist will be expected to work up to 50% of their time at the laboratory bench conducting experiments.

Responsibilities:

• The Scientist will be responsible for managing and conducting experiments on several assay systems, including detection of DNA methylation markers and mutations associated with cancer. Directs the activities of several research segments in accordance with the objectives of the total research plan
• Prepares project status reports and other management reports
• Manages to completion specific assigned projects
• Directs the activities of several research segments in accordance with the objectives of the total research plan
• Reviews data and determine problem-solving course of action; determines project priorities with supervisor
• Prepares project status reports and other management reports
• Reviews final project documentation for content and accuracy
• Serves as a key interface between outside expert groups
• Analyzes and adopts recent developments in appropriate scientific field for new product or project potential
• Maintains high level of knowledge related to current developments in scientific field of expertise
• Stays familiar with new and established laboratory procedures and techniques, and safety practices and procedures in the laboratory
• Performs other technical assignments as directed

Requirements:

• Ph.D. degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or a related field, with 2 to 5+ years applicable industrial experience in  life sciences or clinical  diagnostics.  Alternatively, Master's degree in same with 12+ years applicable industrial experience and demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles or Bachelor's degree in same with 15+ years applicable experience and knowledge.  Demonstrated success in a technical field with expert knowledge in several areas.  Demonstrated success in managing technical projects.
• Experience with the detection of DNA methylation would be an advantage
• Working knowledge of  ISO 13485, FDA QSR’s
