Senior Technical Program Manager
Position Description:
RealNetworks, Inc. is a rapidly growing, web based, digital music, online gaming and streaming company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, that provides the universal platform for the delivery of any digital media, from any point of origin, across virtually any network, to any person on any Internet-enabled device, anywhere in the world.
We are looking for a senior technical program manager to help lead our consumer platform efforts on an exciting new product category. This is a recent startup within RealNetworks building a brand new high volume consumer product line. It has attracted talented and driven executives from a number of companies including Intel, Microsoft, Amazon and Disney.
While every good program manager should have solid organization and people skills, this position calls for exceptional planning and technical capabilities as well. You should have managed at least two software development projects from start to completion, including requirements gathering, scheduling, spec writing, bug triaging, and ultimately shipping the project. You should also have a strong technical background and be able to contribute usefully to architectural discussions. You should have experience with consumer electronics devices or software that ships to consumers, as opposed to internal IT projects. Because this is a global project, experience with issues related to internationalization is highly desired. Device experience using embedded Linux is a big plus. Most importantly, you should be passionate about taking a really difficult challenge and driving it to success.
Essential Functions:
• Develop project plans and schedules and drive functional requirements reviews.
• Conduct kick-off, requirements and spec reviews, and other project meetings.
• Act as liaison between various individuals, groups and departments (i.e. software developers, marketing, operations, business teams, etc.).
• Manage change within the project and evaluate risks and assess potential impacts on project delivery.
• Work with other program managers and senior leadership to identify and address cross-project dependences.
• Work closely with key external entities including vendors and partners to deliver finished results
•
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum:
• Experience shipping successful (well-known, widely used) consumer products
• Strong project management skills and knowledge of best practices.
• Knowledgeable about all stages of the software development process.
• Demonstrated ability to ship consumer-facing product.
• Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to react constructively to changes in requirements and deliverables.
• Experience with team-based program management tools, such as eProject or Microsoft Project.
Preferred:
• Solid understanding of Linux-based embedded systems in the consumer electronics market.
• Experience in delivering digital media delivery systems and web services.
• Exposure to digital video, digital music, and video-based advertising is highly desirable.
Education, Certification, and/or Training:
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s Degree or greater in computer science or equivalent.
Preferred:
• MBA
• Project management certification.
Experience:
Minimum:
• At least four years of experience as a program, project, or development manager developing and shipping consumer facing PC applications or consumer electronic device.
• Managed at least two web-based services, consumer applications, or equivalent through complete project lifecycles.
• Produced a complete set of documentation for at least one project, including specification and schedule at a minimum.
Preferred:
• At least five years of experience as a program, project, or development manager developing and shipping consumer facing applications or services.
• Produced three or more sets of project documentation, including specification and schedule at a minimum.
